Chapter 29 Bound By Fire

  • "This is it!" Jacobs exclaimed, his voice nearly a whisper but louder. He opened it to read and after just a few pages, written in a language old and almost extinct, he sensed movements along the walls of the library. Jacobs closed the book immediately and secured it in the bag he came with. Then his feet hastened up the stairs and into his car. Though ready for anything that might reveal itself out of the shadows, he was frightened by the weakness he felt in his body because he needed food.
  • When he drove into the main road, he reduced the speed of the car and placed the book on the seat beside him. He flipped the pages, skimming to understand what is written — he was in a hurry to read it than he was to get home. The book was voluminous, though, and he could not go past page fifteen when the bullet came.
  • Sniper, twelve o’clock.
