Chapter 26
- Alessandro’s POV
- I thought I was going to hate my life in New York, but I was not. While other Bandoni newbies spent their time in the alley chasing druggies, I spent most of my time in La Bandoni’s IT unit, which was every tech guy’s dream. The first time I walked in, I felt like a kid in a toy store. Gio and I worked on tracking down the Russians and finding out their dealings. We had figured out quite a number of things about them, including that they were stocking some Chinese arms and were making a lot of connections. They were also selling the drug that was contained in the warehouse they burnt down.
- And if I was not in the IT unit hunting down information, I was playing with fire. Texting my father’s wife and spending time with her at the library. I loved tech, and my job was kind of fascinating, but the highlight of my day was when I got to see her and held her in my arms. I loved the way she talked and smiled at me. So different from the smile she gave people. It was a genuine one. Wider and exposed a bit of her pink gums. She laughed out loud and carelessly when she was with me. She was a whole different person when it was just the two of us.
