• Olivia didn’t catch us. I had pulled out just in time from inside Julia. Then I zipped up my pants and blocked her before she could get to Julia. She didn’t suspect anything. We went back to watching TV. Julia joined us soon after, and we could barely keep our eyes off each other, but we were satisfied—we’d had sex outside and we weren’t caught. I shouldn’t feel guilty. I had no idea at first who she was. Nor can I control the desires of my heart. But it stings that I’m seeing Justin’s mom behind his back. What would he think of our friendship when he finds out? He’d probably hate me. I would too if I were him. But Julia was worth the risk. I never thought having the Julia I had a one-night stand with would mean betraying my best friend. I wouldn’t let myself think about the future—only the right here and now. Sticking to Julia through all the backlash we’d have when everyone found out would be one of the hardest decisions I’d have to stick to. I reckoned that Justin and even Olivia wouldn’t make it easy for me to be with their mother. Then there was her bastard husband and my horrible mother. She’d want to give Julia a hard time for sure. But I wouldn’t let her. Still, this bubble I’d created with Julia wouldn’t last long. I had to tell her. This was my last week in this house. I had to resume working as CEO of my father’s company, King Global. I had to prove to the whole world that I could walk in my father’s footsteps—that I wasn’t just some trust fund kid or billionaire heir. That I could continue what Dad started and take the company to the next level, like he had planned to do before he died. I wasn’t sure how Julia would feel about it.
