• I lifted my head to look around. The panic had cleared and I was feeling a little more ready to actually pay attention. I guess my practical side was kicking back in now that I was certain that I would survive the night. The first thing I realized was that Albert's entrance had been nothing short of commanding, and his presence had only continued in that way. The room's attention shifted to him. It didn't feel like anyone would make a move without his say-so. And that was strange, considering that this was Lorenzo's house. It wasn't just the force of his presence; it was the recognition in the eyes of some of the guests that gave me a sinking feeling. They knew him or at least of him. Maybe they were reacting to Ivan, but I didn't believe that. Their reactions were mixed with fear and respect and pointed at Albert.
