• I sat in my room in the pack house, trying to find some lead. Betty's was now the second death in the pack in such a short span. I compared all the evidence from Elara and Betty's cases, trying to find out some connection. Only one thing stood out clearly. Mandrake. That poisonous plant had been found at both crime scenes, its presence too deliberate to be a coincidence.
• I decided to send out an order to investigate the local flower shops for anyone purchasing Mandrake. Just then, a knock interrupted my thoughts. The girl who was sitting beside Isla in the healing and recovery class entered, her expression tight with urgency.
