- I tried to figure why she was so changed from when we graduated from high school. It finally dawned on me to look around. When we graduated, we had nothing. We had been poor all our lives. She worked hard to climb her way out. Now she was doing much better but that was the problem. She perceived she was still second class. Her apartment, car, her singing job. None were at the top of the line. It was a taste of honey. She burned to have the 'good life.' Lynn's parents were well off, although Lynn never took advantage of it. She lived her life on her own. Cheri was well aware of how well-off Lynn's parents were and Lynn was a reminder. Now, she and Lynn were very close, and Cheri never felt Lynn was trying to be above her. Cheri was being consumed by her desire for the best.
- I wasn't sure what to make of this epiphany. If she used this goal for inspiration to work harder and make it on her own, then it would be great. What other way was there?
- Lynn helped me look for an apartment, all the while telling me I could stay with them. "Lynn, I'd love to stay with you guys, but you know I can't."
