- I slammed the door shut behind me and locked it, my fingers trembling so hard I had to try twice before the latch clicked into place. My heart was still pounding like I’d just outrun a damn freight train. Maybe I had. In some twisted way, Alex was a freight train—unrelenting, inescapable, dangerous.
- The echo of his voice, smooth and cold like polished steel, still clung to my skin, wrapping around my bones like chains I couldn’t shake. ‘You’re mine now’. I didn’t even bother turning the lights on. I made a beeline for the bathroom, shoving the door open and fumbling with the water. Hot. I needed it hot. Boiling, if I could manage it. I didn’t care if it scalded me. Maybe that was the point.
