Chapter 2 Shattered Dream
- Elena POV
- "Where are you heading now, Elena?" Alexa looked at me, confused, when I refused to take the taxi back home.
- I kept heading towards the Blackwood Industry, ignoring her question.
- Seeing the horrifying video on my phone left me feeling devastated.
- How could he do this to me?
- He has no right to betray me in this way.
- People on the road stare at me strangely, as if they're seeing a ghost, but I couldn't care less about them-or anything else-right now; all I want is to see Alexander.
- "Elena, what brings you here?
- You're getting married today, right?" When I walked into the blackwood industry, the front desk executive questioned me with a bewildered expression.
- I stepped onto the elevator to make my way to Alexander's office, completely ignoring her inquiries.
- "Where are you heading, Elena?" His assistant questioned me when I arrived at the 78th floor, where Alexander was sitting in all his majesty.
- "I want to meet Alexander." Despite the internal turmoil I was experiencing, I mustered the strength to respond to her inquiry.
- As she examined me from head to toe, her questioning glance swept over me.
- I understand what queries are currently running through her head. Given how professionally and respectfully I always pronounce his name, she must be wondering why I called him Alexander instead.
- "Elena, he's at a really important meeting right now, so you can't meet him." She attempted to stop me.
- "Oh, meeting.
- Of course, he will be busy with meetings, which is why he did not attend his own wedding." I cast a sour glance at his closed office door.
- "Elena, what are you saying?" Her questioning gaze fixed on my face.
- "Now, get out of my way; I want to meet him." I shoved her aside and unlocked his office door.
- Seeing the scene in front of my eyes made me feel even worse.
- He's too preoccupied to shamelessly kiss a blonde female who's seated on his lap.
- "Oh, so this is your important meeting?" My internal conflict erupted into fury.
- "Elena, what is this?
- Where have all of your manners disappeared?
- Do you forget about how to dress professionally at the office?
- It's not a fancy dress contest where you have to show up in a bridal gown; it's my office."
- "Forget about my manners. First of all, tell me who she is." His taunts did nothing except add salt to my broken heart.
- I walked into his office and gave him a furious glare.
- "Who is this woman, darling?" With her arms still wrapped around his neck like a serpent ensnaring its prey, the blonde queried him in a sultry voice.
- "Ignore her, sweetheart; she's only one of my employees." He spoke to her brazenly, staring at me as if he were witnessing something filthy.
- "Employee?
- just an employee.
- Oh, Alexander, am I just an employee for you?
- Is our relationship no longer important to you?
- Did you forget that we were supposed to tie the knot today?"
- "Marrying you?
- What kind of joke is this, Elena?" He laughed bitterly and sat in his chair, like any ruthless CEO.
- "Why are you treating me like this? What have I done wrong?"
- I never thought he would suddenly change. I had no idea he would cause such a profound emotional wound.
- There were only two things I ever wanted: to get my business degree and to marry him.
- When my dreams get dashed, it hurts me a lot, especially when I am on the verge of realizing them.
- "What is she saying, sweetie?"
- "Darling, please ignore her; I only love you, and she is lying." He kissed her hand, showing me the beautiful diamond ring on her finger.
- "Why are you lying, Alexander?
- You love me, right? How could you possibly overlook our five-year relationship? Have you forgotten that our parents fixed our marriage?"
- I don't know why he is hurting me so much; he loves me, right?
- "Elena, enough is enough! Please leave my office; I've already listened to your nonsense." He screamed at me.
- "What?
- Do you want me to leave this office now? Do you forget that you used to kiss me the same way you kissed her and that you were the one who called me into your office every time?" I'm finding it more and more difficult to picture him with someone else. How could he so casually give someone else my place in his life?
- "That's enough; Miss Winter. I was sick of hearing about your allegations. It was only because of my father's persuasion that I appointed you to this industry. I never imagined your level of avarice to be that low."
- "What are you saying, Alexander?"
- He can't be the Alexander Blackwood that I know; he has to be someone else. He has no right to accuse me of making such disgusting comments. His words enter my ears like molten metal.
- Did I make a mistake?
- "Why are you so angry with me?" I still don't understand what's wrong with him.
- "Don't you love me?
- Say it while looking into my eyes." I placed my hands over his face and gazed into his deep green eyes.
- "Stop this nonsense, Miss Winter, I never loved you, so why are you making a fuss in my office?
- You see, I'm already engaged to her." He wrenched my hand away from his face.
- "But we love each other, right?"
- "Oh my god, which love are you referring to?
- I was kind to you because you are my dad's closest friend's daughter, and I felt sorry for you because you are an orphan. I never expected you to try to lure me in with your false narrative so you might become my wife and business partner."
- "What?
- How could you make such baseless charges against me?
- Alexander, I never considered claiming your wealth." I gave him a disbelieving look. He knows all about my aspirations and ambitions, so how could he accuse me of such low things?
- He is now destroying my self-esteem.
- "Miss Winters, It's not your fault; after all, what more would we expect from the daughter of a failed and bankrupt businessman?" He has no right to involve my dad in this; he has already insulted me.
- "Okay, Mr. Blackwood, thank you for announcing your engagement. I have a rather unique present for you." I gave him a strong cheek slap. His white cheek turns red as my fingerprints leave an imprint on it, and the sound of a slap reverberates throughout the office.
- "Elena Winters, how dare you insult me in front of an employee at my workplace?
- You've been fired." Incredulous, he glanced at me while petting his cheek.
- "Who the hell are you to fire me?
- I am resigning from my job." I dabbed my watery eyes.
- "Oh, so now the street dogs also learn to show attitude.
- Well, that's interesting. Let's see how you will survive now. Trust me, Elena Winters. I'll turn your life into a living hell. You'll pay a heavy price for slapping me and damaging my reputation in front of my employees."
- I choose to quietly leave his office because I am experiencing a lot of emotions at once, and I'm not sure which one should take precedence. Outside his office, his whole staff stood and stared at me with a range of emotions on their faces as I walked out. Their expressions ranged from pity to astonishment to rage, and some even seemed to be seeking a slut or whore in me.
- I'm incredibly embarrassed and humiliated to be losing my pride in front of people who have always thought highly of me, but Alexander Blackwood's emotional damage has left me emotionally numb for the time being.
- I can handle a broken heart, but how can I handle the grief of trust that has been shattered?
