  • The room Solas assigns me is deep in the pack house, surrounded by stone on all sides, with no windows and no drafts. It is not comfortable, but comfort has never been the point. This is a space designed for truths that should not echo and work that should not be disturbed. Old wards cling to the walls, layered and functional rather than decorative. Whoever built this understood that some questions are best asked quietly, and some answers are dangerous simply because they exist.
  • I set my satchel down and take a moment before unpacking it, listening to the house breathe around me. Footsteps pass in distant corridors. A door closes softly somewhere above. Voices murmur and then fade. Moonshadow is awake, alert, but disciplined. Fear has not taken hold. That, at least, is good.
