• Serena stood outside the study, hesitating as she spotted Adrian at his desk. Unsure whether to enter, she lingered in the doorway until he turned in his chair to look at her. Taking a deep breath, she straightened up, too anxious to move.
• Seeing her expression, Adrian’s irritation flared. “Come in,” he said sharply.
• With her heart racing, Serena stepped inside and quietly closed the door behind her. As she approached him, her hands trembled as she began to unbutton her blouse.
