- “Let's take a walk, Bunny, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Los Angeles,” he suggested. I nodded in agreement; I could use some fresh air. He offered me his hand, which I took, smiling ear to ear. He typed something into his phone, and immediately his squad dispersed. I was certain they were lurking around somewhere, always watching over their leader as if he were some god. He might look like one, but Nikolai Volkov isn’t a god of mine.
- “Hope I'm not tiring you out. I know you must be tired,” he muttered. My legs felt glued to the floor as I stopped walking. Was he really doing all this—bringing me here, looking after me—because he cared? Tears threatened to fall. I mouthed ‘Thank you’ and gave him a big hug. His body stood rigid; he did not move for about 30 seconds, probably shocked that I was hugging him. He wrapped his arms around me, hugging me back, and I basked in his rich, masculine scent.
