• September soon came, and with it the beginning of the school year. Rita started her second year of high school and was about to turn 17 in October. Madeline had her 15th birthday in July and just entered the last year of elementary school.
• On September 10th, Rita drove up to the school in her Opel, taking usual place in the parking lot, in the left corner, by the alley leading to the main entrance. New York Elite High School consisted of 5 buildings: a library with a multimedia reading room; assembly hall that also housed various smaller rooms, serving mainly as lumber rooms for various equipment; a gym with cloakrooms; a canteen and the main building, which housed classrooms and the director's office.
