Chapter 249 Her Eyes No Longer Looked at Casper Frost
- Rhea Wood bolted toward Jinyu. The same Rhea who wouldn’t budge no matter who called her before now ran straight for Jinyu. Jinyu was still in the thick of the fight, but she arched a brow at everyone, smug like she’d just hit the jackpot. Casper Frost couldn’t spare a second to be jealous of Jinyu. He held his breath, waiting for Rhea to reach a safe spot. Whitney Thompson couldn’t stay calm anymore. Seeing Rhea about to make it out, she rushed two steps forward, reaching to grab her. A volley of gunshots cracked. One bullet grazed Whitney’s arm. She stumbled back, clutching the wound, and could only watch Rhea sprint to Jinyu’s side, her face twisting with hate, like she wanted to turn into a monster and tear Rhea apart. Jinyu’s eyes lit up when she saw Rhea. She yanked Rhea behind her and, in one clean kick with her heels, sent the attacker lunging at them flying. Casper and his people closed in fast, forming a shield around Jinyu and Rhea. Rhea, ignoring the danger, asked urgently from behind Jinyu, “Jinyu, what did you just say? Mr. Frost isn’t dead? Is that true?” Jinyu frowned in confusion. “Of course it’s true. Who told you Roger Frost died?” As she spoke, Jinyu shot a hostile look at Li Qingrui. Lucas Fray and the others turned cold faces toward Li Qingrui too. Li Qingrui shook his head hard. “Why are you all staring at me? I didn’t make stuff up! With that will Grandpa announced, before they caught Rhea, Hunter Frost would never let Grandpa die. Everybody knows that!” Everyone did know—except Rhea. Rhea’s last clear memory was sharing a final drink with Grandpa. Then when she woke, Ash Silkgrove had taken her away. She wanted to go back to Grandpa, but Ash told her Grandpa was already gone. She had seen Grandpa seriously ill, seen him close his eyes without a sound. It never crossed her mind that Ash lied to keep her put. And after that, Li Qingrui and Zhao Qingyu didn’t get why Rhea was so crushed—it was because she believed Roger Frost was dead. Everyone was busy fleeing. Li Qingrui already had it in for Rhea, so no one explained a thing to her. It took an outsider like Jinyu to catch on and shout the truth. In a heartbeat, Rhea was so excited she didn’t know what to do with her hands and feet. “I’m going back! I need to see Grandpa!” Once Rhea reached Jinyu’s back, the fight between Hunter Frost’s side and Casper’s paused. Hunter’s face turned grim. He threatened Rhea, “Rhea, the old boy isn’t dead yet, but he’s hanging by a thread. I ordered the doctors to keep him alive at any cost. Unless you come with me right now, I’ll call and stop the meds this second.” He already had his phone out. If Rhea refused, he’d dial. Rhea panicked. She didn’t care what would happen to her if she fell into Hunter’s hands. She just wanted Grandpa okay. She started to move toward Hunter on instinct—Casper grabbed her in the next second. Seeing it was Casper, Rhea frowned and tore her hand free. Casper’s hands were covered in cuts. Her struggle ripped the wounds that hadn’t been properly bandaged. Blood ran down his fingers and smeared across Rhea’s hand. Rhea didn’t even look. Her eyes no longer went to Casper. A hollow ache hit Casper’s chest, but he hurried to explain, “Grandpa isn’t in Hunter’s hands. I already moved him.” Casper had known for a long time how much Roger Frost meant to Rhea, so of course he had set things up. While rescuing Rhea, he also moved Grandpa. Hunter let out a harsh laugh. “No way. Casper, you’re lying to this woman again, aren’t you?” Casper stared him down, icy. “No way? Then make the call.” Hunter’s face shifted. He dialed immediately. No one knew what the person on the other end said, but Hunter’s expression got darker and darker. From that look, you didn’t have to guess the result. Hunter called another number, face tight. The second the line picked up, he snarled, “Fuyan, you’re my own son, and you dare betray me!” On the phone, Fuyan sounded torn. “Dad, please stop. We already have more than enough. The man who’s sick is your father—my grandpa. We can’t toss aside our own family for selfish gain.” Even a kid in sixth grade understood what the grown-ups refused to. Hunter exploded. “You know nothing! Everything I’ve done is for you, for our family’s future.” “I don’t need any of that, Dad. Do you want me to grow up and act like you do? Treat you the same way when you’re old?” Hunter paused, words stuck in his throat. He finally spat, “You ungrateful little traitor!” He slammed the call ended. But everyone had heard enough. Grandpa had indeed been moved. No one expected Fuyan to help Casper, working from inside to get Grandpa out. Fuyan was Hunter’s own son. Hunter knew the tide had turned. Casper was back, and at the very least Hunter couldn’t force Rhea to hand over her shares right now. Still, he wasn’t totally hopeless. From the looks of it, Rhea and Casper had split. Rhea wouldn’t help Casper. If Hunter couldn’t get Rhea’s shares, Casper couldn’t either. Given the situation, Hunter had Frost Corporation basically under control. Even with Casper back, he couldn’t do much to Hunter. Hunter slashed his hand through the air. “We’re leaving!” Before he left, he didn’t forget to take Whitney Thompson with him. He’d wired three hundred million to that woman. Since he didn’t get Rhea, that money had to come back. The moment Hunter left, Casper went down, hard. Lucas Fray jumped, rushing to stabilize him. Everyone crowded around, worried sick about Casper. Rhea just tugged Jinyu’s sleeve and asked in a small, pleading voice, “Jinyu, can I go see Grandpa now?” Jinyu looked at Rhea, then at the collapsed Casper, and asked, unsure, “Are you sure you want to go now?” Rhea nodded without a second thought, not even glancing at Casper on the floor. Casper forced out, weak, “The old boy’s at Mirage. Jinyu, take her there, and bring Dr. Hua.” Jinyu didn’t know what had gone down between those two. Since Casper said so, she simply took Rhea and Dr. Hua to Mirage. There were plenty of people around Casper. He’d be fine. Jinyu headed out with them, and Rhea followed without looking back.
