Chapter 8

  • All through the hours at school, Flora wasn't really happy. She had an heavy heart. She was wondering what the following day would look like in school.
  • Bennie was really her thorn in the flesh. Since she had no friend, she walked outside the school alone and sighted a familiar figure by her left sight.
  • She walked towards him and realized that it was the driver who drove her to work. He must have been waiting around so he could drive her home.
  • "Are you done, madam ? So I can drive you home?" He questioned.
  • "Yes...but, I want to check on my brother at the hospital, I haven't heard from him since I moved to Orville's house," Flora said.
  • "Mr . Orville said I must do whatever you want so I will drive you to the hospital, if that pleases you,"the driver said.
  • "Thank you," Flora walked inside the car and told the man the particular hospial that her brother was. Soon, the man began to drive.
  • "Have you been hanging around all day?" Flora asked after a few moments of silence in the car.
  • "No, young Mrs. "The driver answered as he drove very carefully.
  • "Can you address me as Flora?" Flora reasoned that this driver was just as old as her father yet he was addressing her with such respect.
  • "I 'm sorry, young Miss but you are Mr. Orville's wife. And Erm...Mr. Orville do not permit me to engage in a long conversation with you, I'm sorry. I hope you can understand me," the man said and Flora just stared blankly for a while.
  • For real? He doesn't even want his driver to speak to her? Strange but funny at the same time.
  • "Okay," Flora said and didn't say any more word until the car parked at the hospital that her brother was.
  • Flora didn't want to trouble the man by opening the door to the car by herself so she allowed the man come to open the door for her.
  • Once the man opened the car, Flora stepped down and walked inside the hospital, she went to her brother's ward straight away but didn't find him.
  • With a blank heart, not wanting to be pessimistic, she found the doctor that was in charge of her brother and greeted," Good afternoon, sir."
  • "Flora, how have you been?" The doctor greeted casually.
  • "Fine, sir. I can't find my brother here anymore. Has my father paid for his surgery?" She questioned.
  • "Yes, he has,"the doctor answered and she heaved a sigh of relief.
  • "So he's fine ,now right?" She questioned.
  • "Yes, he should. The second operation was a successful one. Congratulations," the doctor had paused at the entrance of the office to quickly respond to Flora. He opened the door to his office and walked in.
  • Flora was happy to know that her brother was now fine, she then placed a call across to her father, once he answered it, Flora spoke," is Tony with you?"
  • "Yes," Rudolph answered and Flora hung the call at once. She walked quickly to where the driver was.
  • "I'm sorry that I will have to bother you again. My brother has been treated and is now with my father, I need to see him," Flora said.
  • "Sure, young mrs," the driver opened the door to the car for her and she stepped in.
  • "The address, Mrs?" The driver asked before he could start the car engine.
  • After Flora had called the address for him, the man drove to Rudolph's house. She got off the car after the man had opened the door for her and ran inside the house.
  • However, she saw Rachael, her step-sister walking towards her from the dinning.
  • "See whom we have here," Rachael chuckled lightly.
  • Flora remembered how cruel she and her mother was to her and her brother many years back that they even had to run away when they couldn't bear the hardship anymore.
  • To be sincere, Flora still held grudges against these people. But he loathed her father even more who was indifferent and careless about her and her brother.
  • "Why are you standing like a ghost! Huh? I heard that you are now married....to an impotent," Rachael scoffed hard.
  • "Idiot, you will never have a baby in this world," Rachael scoffed even harder.
  • Ella smirked sardonically and said, "Nice try. Where is my brother?"
  • "What brother? That boy that is always falling sick? He slumped yesterday and had been sent to the hospital. Just let that boy die so you can have rest, "Rachael said.
  • At the mention of death, Flora moved towards Rachael and wanted to slap her hard but a thick voice stopped her.
  • "Don't even dare it," Rudolph shouted that Flora was forced to turn to him.
  • Rachael was not his biological daughter, she was his biological daughter yet he would rather protect Rachael and abandon her.
  • "I hate you!" Flora said sternly to Rudolph," where is my brother?"
  • "I didn't pay for his surgery at all, I brought him home and was making him use drugs but he slumped yesterday and was rushed to the hospital," Rudolph said with no iota of pity.
  • He told the doctor to simply lie that Tony had been treated whenever Flora comes to ask.
  • Flora's heart broke into pieces that uncontrollable tears began to fall off her eyes, "you didn't fulfil your promise?" She asked painfully.
  • "Although I'm been told that you signed the marriages certificate, I need to see that you are willing to spend the rest of your life in that marriage before paying for Tony's health bill." Rudolph said .
  • Flora reasoned that her father no longer has conscience and was nothing but a pure heartless beast. How could he do that to a boy that needs a second surgery as soon as possible. It was because of that she agreed to marry Orville.
  • She felt betrayed , dejected, bitter and heart broken.
  • "Which hospial is my brother?" She questioned.
  • "Our family hospial," Rudolph ansewered and faced Rachael," sweetheart, you are satisfied, right?"
  • "Yes, dad. Don't forget the money you promise me," Rachael said gleefully.
  • Rudolph smiled and said," come with me baby, I have a surprise for you."
  • Rudolph and Rachael walked away from the living room leaving Ella alone in the room.
