Chapter 9

  • Lena's POV
  • I hissed loudly, hating myself, hating how my life was turning. There was no way I had thought of a day when I would be stuck in a room like a slave, having all these chains.
  • The beating was painful, but I wasn't thinking of that. It was better to be beaten than caged like an animal. I felt more like cow dung.
  • "Lena, are we slaves for real?" My little wolf, Elena, mumbled inside me with sadness in her voice,
  • I shrugged and rested my head against the wall. My mind flashed through the past, when life was going fine with the love of my parents. Now it was all gone. I'm no longer the sweet baby, I've turned into a demon hated by everyone.
  • I shut my eyes, sighing deeply. The thought of Lilian the Luna dying broke my heart. Just as painful as that of my parents, the feeling of guilt made tears fall off my eyes. My appearance in her life made her lose hers. I just can't help but wonder who I am to let these people die for me.
  • Not only that, but I don't know how I'll kill Xavier. I thought he was a mere werewolf until Hutton said those words, which showed he must be so powerful. I'm confused at why Lillian made me promise to kill him. How?
  • Elena mumbled with a sigh, "You are turning 16 in a few days. I can't wait for your first shift. I've been stuck here as long"
  • "There is no need to let you out when you will have the chains and feel the pain of slavery; we are like dogs!" I rolled my eyes, glaring so hard at the shackles.
  • "Do we have a mate?" She asked, and I burst into a loud laugh. Her question sounded so funny.
  • "Look at yourself and answer the question: do we look like one who has a mate? Our mate must have died when the whole pack was destroyed!" I growled, feeling sadness cover me as she also laid down sober.
  • "What if he is still alive?" She asked, her voice showing how hopeless she was.
  • "Even at that, would he come into this cell to mate you?" I sneered and found myself laughing. She laughed too, but the sound of my grumbling stomach took away our laughter.
  • "We haven't eaten anything since!" I whined.
  • "We just used our last strength to laugh," she grunted and howled.
  • "Maybe we would have to die of hunger since the Luna asked them not to kill us. Their plan must have been to leave our life in the hands of hunger. Fuck!" I cursed and lay flat on the ground.
  • "Why are these people heartless? Their Luna must not be from this place!" She fumed and laid inside me.
  • "Stop talking and wait for death." I frowned, and she laughed, making me laugh too.
  • Just then, the door of the cell made a clanking sound, showing that someone was coming in.
  • "I think they aren't done hitting us." I sighed, feeling weak to stand up from the lying position.
  • "I can hear the aroma of food," Elena said, and with a rush, I sprang up.
  • "Hey, eat your food! The Alpha calls for you!" I heard a feminine voice and didn't care to see her face as I snatched the food away from her grip.
  • My eyes widened at how light the plate was, making me think it was empty.
  • I dropped it to the ground and opened it...
  • "Shit!" I cursed under my breath, feeling the great urge to kick it off my face. The food was so little that at some point I thought she forgot where they sent her to take the food. It couldn't be mine, especially when I have a huge appetite.
  • I looked up at the lady who brought it sharply and there was no single smile on her face as she kept glaring at me like I killed her boyfriend.
  • "Who has this?" I asked, and she scoffed, frowning deeper.
  • "So, I should take it away. You aren't eating right." She huffed, bending to take the plate away.
  • "Are you certain this is my food because the size is..."
  • I couldn't finish my words before she picked up the plate, hissing loudly.
  • "I'm telling the Alpha that you said you weren't hungry!" She rolled her eyes.
  • "Hand it to me!" I breathed, feeling like crying.
  • She dropped it and sneered at me as I ate.
  • "I don't know why you are still kept alive after killing her. Just to save your pathetic life, you made our Luna sacrifice her life!" She spat while I ate. My heart grew heavy with pain and almost burst when the food was finished in a few seconds.
  • "I regret being the one who brought your food, demon!" She cursed, taking away the plate.
  • "Did we just eat?" Elena asked, and I shrugged.
  • "I had forgotten we had eaten anything. I still felt the same hunger," I hissed and lay back down on the ground.
  • "Get up there, the Alpha ordered your presence now!" I heard a deep growl followed by the clanking of chains.
  • The lock was removed from my wrists and legs before they dragged me off like the slave I had turned into.
  • I was damn weak from hunger, but I guess they thought I had been fed. I just tasted their food!
  • I was led through the hallways to a large hall where I could hear voices and thought there were many people, but then I recognized the terrifying voice of the Alpha. I was terrified and wished I had some mysterious power to disappear.
  • The door was opened, and I was taken into the hall. My jaw dropped, my eyes widened, and fear gripped me, making my feet grow cold. Right in front of me were three men who looked nothing different from devils. The Alpha was in the middle, while the others flanked him.
  • I had never seen their faces before, but at first glance at them, I knew I was in trouble.
  • They were both accompanied by a lady, and I knew they were mates.
  • The guards who brought me in pushed me so hard to the ground that my head hit hard on the tiled floor.
  • "That's her!" The cold voice of the Alpha resounded through the hall, making me forget the pain in my head from the hit. I don't know why his voice had a way of putting extreme fear in me.
  • "She killed my Luna!" He howled with sadness and anger in his voice.
  • "Why is she still alive?" I heard another hoarse voice from the person sitting beside the Alpha.
  • "I promised my wife to keep her life and never ban her." I regret those words, "he growled.
  • "Why did Luna save her at the expense of her life when she saw how weak the girl was?" Another voice chipped in with that hateful and angry tone. I couldn't look up as fear took over me.
  • "You told Lillian that you could kill Xavier for her, right?" One of the females asked, and I looked up for the first time.
  • I replied, "I didn't tell her that, but she believed in me."
  • "So, can you kill him?" She asked calmly.
  • "I hadn't met him before, so I didn't know if I could kill him." I answered, feeling a bit relieved at how calm she was.
  • "Do you know why you were brought here?" She asked while I shook my head.
  • "My name is Kyle, the Beta's mate. That is the Gamma and his mate. That's my mate over there. He is the Beta. We are the official who runs the affairs of the whole pack. We have lost our Luna, making us vulnerable. Tell us who you are." She asked, with the calmness in her voice fading away.
  • "My name is Lena. My pack was destroyed by an unknown person. I was running away with my mother when she saved me."
  • "What is the name of your pack?" She asked.
  • "I never knew... No one has ever... " My words were cut short with a slap from her that set my cheek on fire as I let out a loud cry.
  • "What is the name of your pack?" She thundered, making me cringe.
  • "I...I...I..."
  • "How old are you?" She asked,
  • "Eighteen"
  • "Shift into your wolf," she ordered.
  • "I can't do that now." I replied, looking down at the ground.
  • "How can you kill Xavier?" She asked.
  • "I think I would be able to kill him since the Luna..."
  • "Shut up." Another feminine voice, which looked scary, chipped in with a slap at the same spot as the Beta's mate,
  • I could swear my cheek must have burned off now.
  • I rolled over the floor in pain while my wolf howled in pain. I gritted my teeth, wishing I could stop crying, but the pain was too excruciating.
  • "Since you can kill Xavier, defeat me in a fight." The Beta's mate, who just slapped me, huffed, rolling up her sleeves.
  • My vision was blurred from tears, but I could still see the muscles in her arms. She looked just like a real warrior who had fought many battles.
  • "If she defeats you, I will make her my daughter!" I heard the voice of the Alpha say,
  • My mouth went agape as I thought of being treated like the Alpha's daughter. It was the best thing that could ever happen to anyone.
  • "You will make me your daughter?" I asked with a sheepish smile. I just imagined sitting right beside him while he stroked my hair, as Dad would always do when he was alive.
  • I forced myself to smile at them all while they sneered and sent those hateful looks at me.
  • "The first person to lie flat on the ground without standing up for twenty seconds becomes the loser!" He added, and I stretched my body, rolling my sleeves too.
