Chapter 2
- “Enise?” Anna’s voice was soft, like she was trying not to scare me.
- Her face was serious, but I saw something else in her eyes.
- Sympathy? Or was it pity? I didn't like the look on her face but before I could tell her, my vision blurred.
- When I opened my eyes again, I was laying in bed.
- I looked around, the memories from earlier crashing into my mind like a wave.
- I jerked up, wincing in pain but I Ignored it as I tried stepping down from the bed.
- “ At this rate, I'm afraid you'll be stuck here for months, Enise. Can't you be careful considering you have fresh stitches in your body?" A soft reproaching voice sounded from the door and Anna walked in.
- “Where is she?” My voice was barely a whisper.
- Anna sighed. “Enise, you need to focus on your health right now,” she said, avoiding my question.
- I shook my head weakly, the tears already burning in my eyes. “No, Anna, where is my daughter?” I tried to sit up, but my body was too weak, too shattered. The room spun, and darkness crept in.
- “Enise, please,” Anna urged,a pleading look on her face.
- She pressed me back against the bed gently but firmly. “You need to rest. You’re still recovering.”
- “I don’t care!” I sobbed, my voice cracking with desperation.
- Anna, they took my baby! They took her away. I need to go get her.” The words felt like they were being ripped from my throat, very painful.
- “ I know that Enise. I Know that they took her away but what do you intend to do with your condition? You are weak. You are in no position to bring your daughter back even if you barge in there. I doubt you can make it to the pack with your pathetic condition.” Anna shouted, her voice and face stern.
- " I'm sorry to say but right now not only are you hopeless, you are useless too. You don't stand a chance against him.” she added.
- I broke down hearing her words, my body shaking with the force of my cries. She was right. I stood no chance against Lucas. Even if I managed to drag my a** to the pack, I could only beg and cry like a pathetic loser.
- After what felt like forever, I calmed down.
- “ I don't Know what to do, Anna. She is my daughter. I can't let those monsters take her away." I confessed, wiping the stray tears on my cheeks.
- “ I want to help you, Enise. I really want to but there's nothing I can do. He is the Alpha ànd controls the fate of everyone in this place." She said, taking my hand in hers.
- “ The only thing you can do is calm down ànd focus on getting better. When you are strong, you can think about confronting him."
- I nodded at her words. She was right. Only by recovering and getting up on my feet could I think about getting my little one back.
- Anna smiled at me.
- A week later, the hospital walls that had become my prison finally released me, but the pain in my heart had only festered with every minute I spent there.
- I couldn't help but worry about her. Worry whether she was crying, eating well or sleeping well.
- No one came to visit me in the whole week I stayed at the hospital.
- I could not help but smile with helplessness and bitterness.
- After filing the discharge papers, I dragged my body ànd headed straight to the pack.
- Standing outside the pack gate, I could not help but reminisce about my days here.
- Although I was abandoned when young, the previous Luna took me in ànd raised me as his daughter.
- Lucas never liked me and kept my distance from me.
- When Lucas took over the pack, he was engaged to get married to Laura but after two years, Laura suddenly left without any explanation.
- That's when Lucas approached me and proposed marriage, I agreed readily ànd we got married.
- As much as everything felt rushed, I never questioned him.
- Who would have thought…
- Pushing those thoughts to the back of my mind, I entered the gate.
- Every step I took toward the pack's territory felt like dragging myself through a storm.
- The sound of soft music, cheers and laughter reached my ears just before I saw a huge banner, boldly written “ naming ceremony."
- My heart froze ànd I stood rooted in place.
- It was my daughter's naming ceremony and no one dared tell me?
- Rage burned inside me and I marched to the venue.
- Before I could take few steps ahead, a guard approached me standing before me.
- “ You should go back. You’re not allowed…”
- “I don’t care what I’m allowed to do!” I snapped, pushing past him with a strength I didn’t know I had left.
- “ Luna ordered that you can't enter the pack.” The guard said, making me chuckle.
- " Luna? I'd like to see how many Lunas we have in this pack.” I sneered before stomping away.
- I had to see my daughter. I had to hold her and most importantly, I had to take her away.
- It didn't take me long to arrive at the venue. My heart raced as I spotted the cradle at the front, surrounded by the pack members.
- Laura was there, cradling my daughter in her arms as if she were her own.
- Rage bubbled up inside me and my rationality flew away.
- I shoved through the crowd, ignoring the gasps and the stares.
- “That’s my daughter!” I screamed, my voice cutting through the chatter. The room fell silent, all eyes on me but I didn't care.
- The only thing I cared about was her, my daughter.
- Laura’s eyes narrowed as she turned to face me, her expression cold as ice. “Enise, you shouldn’t be here,” she said calmly, though there was a warning in her voice.
- I didn’t care. “Give her back to me!” I demanded, my voice breaking. My hands trembled as I reached out toward my baby.
- “ Give me back my daughter, Laura." I shouted.
- But before I could take another step, guards appeared at Laura’s signal. I struggled against them, but it was no use.
- My éyes settled on Lucas who stood there, watching with indifferent eyes.
- “ You shouldn't be here." He said before taking the child from Laura's hands and walking away.
- I watched with tears in his eyes. If I held a glimmer of hope earlier that Laura's words were lies, Lucas' actions confirmed everything.
- “ Why?" I whispered but he was far gone to hear me.
- Laura stepped forward, her voice filled with false sympathy. “I’m so sorry, everyone,” she said ,“but Enise has been through a traumatic experience. She had a miscarriage, and the grief has…affected her mind.”
- “No!” I screamed, thrashing against the guards. “She’s lying! She took my baby! She’s my daughter!”
- The guests whispered among themselves, pitying looks thrown my way as if I was some broken, delusional woman. But no matter how loud I screamed, no one listened. No one believed me. I could see it written boldly on their faces.
- Laura turned back to the guards. “Take her away,” she ordered, her voice as cold as ever.
- “No! Please!” I begged as they dragged me out of the room, tears streaming down my face. “Please don’t take her from me! She’s all I have left!”
- My pleas fell on deaf ears. They dragged me out of the pack house, away from the celebration, away from my daughter, and locked me in a cell. The cold stone walls are a reminder that I was now a prisoner in my own home for asking what's mine.
- Hours passed as I sat there, lifeless with no more tears flowing.
- I prayed and hoped that someone would open the damn door and take me to my daughter. I longed to touch her, feel her and give her a warm hug.
- Instead, the door to my cell opened, and Laura walked in. The sight of her made my stomach turn, but I was too exhausted, too broken to do anything more than glare at her.
- “I can't believe you dared set your filthy feet here and disrupt my daughter's special event.” She spat.
- “I warned you, didn’t I? I told you to stay away, to forget about her and Lucas but you didn't listen.”
- “How could you?” I whispered, my voice hoarse from all the screaming and crying.
- “ She is my daughter. I gave birth to…”
- " Just shut up, will you? You carried her but you have no right over her.”
- Laura sighed, her patience wearing thin. “You’ve left me no choice,” she said, her voice hardening. “ I can't have you losing your breaks again and harming my daughter.”
- “What are you going to do to me?” I asked, fear creeping in.
- “You’re going to a place where you can meet people like you,” Laura replied, her expression indifferent. “A mental hospital.”
- My blood ran cold. “No…you can’t…” I shook my head, panic rising.
- “ Lucas will not allow you to do that." I whispered, not even trusting my words any more.
- Laura sneered.
- “ He can't wait to get rid of you. You know, even if I decide to end your miserable life right now, he wouldn't care.
- Do you Know why? Because you are just a pawn and since you are useless now, it's only practical that you'll be discarded."
- I could only smile, albeit bitterly as the guards dragged me out of my cell and took me away.
