Chapter 3 You're Worse Than Pigs

  • Half an hour later, Louis's car slowly pulled up in front of the Newton family estate.
  • "Ah, Miss Seven, how did you get hurt? Young Master, quick, Dr. Johnston has just finished checking on Fifth Young Master!"
  • The butler hurried out to greet them, and just as quickly, opened the path for them.
  • It seemed as though everyone had forgotten about Hope's existence.
  • Hope didn't care. She tilted her head to look at the floor-to-ceiling windows on the second floor of the opposite villa. The man…
  • He was indeed there!
  • At that moment, he wore a loose hospital gown, a bandage wrapped around his forehead, and a plaster cast on his right arm. He sat slumped in a wheelchair, his complexion pale—looking no better than she had in her previous life when she was on the brink of death.
  • She remembered that in her past life, he always sat in that wheelchair. How did he get injured? Had he really been abroad all that time treating his leg?
  • When did he start liking her?
  • Hope had too many questions, but she wasn't in a rush. She would uncover the truth about this man step by step!
  • When Hope walked into the Newton family's living room, Dr. Johnston had just finished treating Sylvia's injuries. Sylvia had "woken up" and was surrounded by Father and Mrs. Newton, as well as Louis.
  • It was really ridiculous. On the day they were supposed to welcome her back, they couldn't even gather the whole family. It was obvious they weren't really welcoming her return. In her past life, she had believed her brothers just didn't have the time.
  • "Don't worry, Sir and Madam, Miss Seven's injury is not serious. It's just a minor scratch and a bit of shock. She will recover in a few days," Dr. Johnston reported honestly.
  • Hope recognized Dr. Johnston. He was the Newton family's family doctor, mainly taking care of Fifth Young Master Todd, who had been bedridden for years.
  • A man who, for the sake of money, deliberately swapped disinfectant with saltwater when treating her wounds—he was nothing but garbage!
  • He also had his share in the grievances from her past life.
  • "What do you mean, just a minor scratch? Sylvia passed out just now!" Louis shouted in rage.
  • "Big Brother, don't blame Dr. Johnston. I just hit my head when I fell down the stairs, which caused me to faint," Sylvia said, suddenly covering her mouth, as if she had said something she shouldn't.
  • Mrs. Newton frowned. "What do you mean, fell down the stairs?"
  • "It's nothing, I accidentally fell down the stairs. It has nothing to do with Sister Hope," Sylvia tried to explain, but her eyes nervously darted towards Hope, who was standing behind the crowd.
  • It was as if everyone had just remembered Hope's presence. One by one, they turned to look at her.
  • "You are Hope?" Mr. Newton scrutinized his daughter, whom he had been separated from for more than ten years. In person, she looked much better than she did on television.
  • Her skin was fair and flawless, her beauty striking. Her brows and eyes even resembled those of his talented sons. She was clearly the product of the Newton family's genes.
  • Mrs. Newton's tone was unkind as she questioned, "Did you hurt Sylvia?"
  • "Dad, Mom, it was Hope who kicked Sylvia down the stairs. I saw it with my own eyes," Louis answered quickly.
  • "Big Brother, don't say that…" Sylvia feigned pulling Louis back.
  • Louis, frustrated, said, "Sylvia, you're too kind-hearted, that's why you're being bullied. Do you think I'm lying when I saw it with my own eyes?"
  • "Hope! Kneel down!" Mrs. Newton yelled. Anyone who harmed her precious daughter would not be forgiven.
  • Hope looked at her indifferently. "Who are you?"
  • "I'm your mother!"
  • "Oh, you're the one Sylvia told me about—the one who wants to take my kidney to save your son?" Hope clicked her tongue and looked at Mrs. Newton from head to toe, as if inspecting a clown.
  • "Who taught you to say such nonsense?"
  • Mrs. Newton's anger flared, but there was a hint of guilt behind it. Because it was true. Her fifth son, Todd, had been weak since childhood, and a few years ago, his kidneys started failing. They had been looking for a suitable donor, but to no avail.
  • They couldn't get any of their other sons to donate, so they had been dragging on Todd's condition. It was only recently that they found out Hope, the daughter they had lost, was alive. They decided to take action.
  • However, this plan was still under consideration, and only a few of their sons knew about it.
  • "I just said it, didn't I? Sylvia told me herself. Otherwise, why would I have kicked her?" Hope said with a shrug.
  • "Not only did she tell me about this, she also said that the Newton family was filled with pigs and dogs, that not a single person was worth anything. The Newton family was a den of wolves that devoured people without spitting out the bones! She told me to never come back to the Newton family, or I would end up with my bones scattered and my soul damned!"
  • "Her mouth was filthy and stinky, I couldn't take it anymore, so I kicked her. I figured I'd help you vent your frustrations."
  • Sylvia was stunned and flustered. "No, I never said those things..."
  • She suddenly grabbed Louis's arm. "Big Brother, you were there too. Please tell Mom and Dad it's not like that. You know how good they've been to me. How could I say such things about them?"
  • Louis looked at the tearful Sylvia and then at the calm Hope.
  • In fact, he had only seen Sylvia fall down the stairs. He didn't know what they had said.
  • Hope knew Louis hadn't heard anything, so she boldly framed Sylvia, wanting her to understand how it felt to be falsely accused in her past life!
  • "Sylvia didn't say those things. It was clearly you who were jealous of Sylvia getting all our family's love, hating that she had replaced you as the Newton family's beloved daughter for over ten years, and wanted to harm her!"
  • Louis lied. He firmly believed his kind-hearted sister would never slander the family. The only evil one here was Hope!
  • "Believe it or not." Hope sat on the sofa, crossing her legs with a nonchalant attitude.
  • Mr. Newton's face darkened. He didn't care for such a wild and unruly daughter, but Hope's looks were simply too stunning. Once they had Fifth Young Master's kidney transplant sorted, they could arrange a marriage for Hope and use it to bring in business benefits for the Newton family.
  • The rich had everything except for playthings, and especially a wild little cat like her was hard to tame!
  • After weighing the pros and cons, Mr. Newton decided to downplay the issue and keep Hope for now, and deal with the rest later.
  • "Alright! This must be some misunderstanding. We all believe Sylvia isn't that kind of person. As for kicking Sylvia down the stairs, considering you've grown up outside without proper education, we forgive you."
  • "Don't mention today's incident again. Your fifth brother needs a kidney transplant, but the Newton family isn't so poor that we can't find a good kidney source."
  • Hope sneered. "I hope so, otherwise you'd truly be worse than pigs and dogs."
  • "You… sharp-tongued and aggressive! Why can't you be more obedient and gentle like Sylvia? You've only been back for a while, and you're already making the whole family angry. You really have no manners!" Mrs. Newton was so angry her face turned pale.
  • "I know you're angry, but calm down first. Because not only am I ill-mannered, I'm also without morals and decency. There will be plenty more to make you angry later."
  • Just as another argument was about to break out, Mr. Newton waved his hand impatiently. "I see you're tired. Let the butler take you to your room to rest."
  • Once Mr. Newton spoke, Mrs. Newton and Louis had no choice but to swallow their frustration.
  • Hope followed the butler upstairs. She wasn't in a hurry. She would pay back every grievance from her past life, one step at a time!
  • Just like before, Hope was taken to a small room at the end of the hallway. This room was quite nice, and it had a clear view of the villa across the street.
  • She was very curious about the man. There were so many things she wanted to ask him, so many questions to be answered.
  • Hope waited by the window for quite a while, but the man never appeared. Only a faint light shone through the curtains. It was only a little after eight in the evening, and from her memories, the man wouldn't go to sleep so early.
  • Could something have happened to him?
