Chapter 443 I Knew You Were Up to No Good

  • “How would I know?” Duan Chenfeng hadn’t seen what was happening outside and had no idea who was coming. He just glared darkly at the bearded robber. “You don’t know? Son of a—” “Boss, quit it. That guy’s already here. What do we do? Shooting didn’t do crap!” Before the bearded man could press Duan Chenfeng further, one of the lackeys totally panicked. Their biggest advantage was the guns in their hands, but facing Finneas, not a single bullet had hit him, not even the guy he was holding, Lin Shuainan. That was flat-out terrifying. “You shouldn’t have fired. Maybe he was just passing by. Think for a second. We called someone to bring cash, it’s only been twenty minutes. Even if they had a chopper, they wouldn’t make it here this fast.” Duan Chenyang, sitting in his wheelchair, spoke coolly, his tone steady. The bearded man heard that and practically blew a gasket. “Yeah! Damn it, who the hell fired first? I’ll—” “Boss, I think it was you. You said that car looked nice and wanted to jack it for fun.” One of the lackeys chimed in, helpfully reminding him. The bearded man’s mouth twitched. That slap in the face came fast, like a tornado. “He stopped, Boss. That guy stopped.” “Quit yelling. He’s so close now. Shoot, hurry up! No way I’m missing him from this range!” A couple of lackeys swapped their junk rifles for double-barrel shotguns. At close range, those things were brutal. The bearded man rushed over and smacked the backs of their heads—two sharp cracks. “You idiots got a death wish? You dare fire now? Eyes on the hostages. I’ll go check the car!” He was bold, all right. Whether Finneas was human or a ghost, he didn’t care—he was getting out to face him. A lackey muttered, “They’re not cops. Why the hell are we watching these hostages?” The bearded man shot him a glare and hopped out. In the bus, Duan Chenyang scanned the hunched, shaking passengers, his face dark. “We already agreed to bring you money. This coach isn’t with us. They’re innocent. You can let them off now.” “No crap. You think we need your advice? You cripple—sit still!” A lackey jammed a gun barrel against Duan Chenyang’s forehead. “Don’t kill anyone! Please!” “I don’t wanna die. I—” The whole coach erupted in terrified screams. When had they ever seen anything like this? Duan Chenfeng crouched, quickly grabbed Duan Chenyang’s hand, and shook his head slightly, signaling him not to deal with the passengers now, so they wouldn’t provoke the robbers. Duan Chenyang exhaled, helpless, and let his eyes narrow like he was closing them. But a sharp light flickered there—he was locked onto the huddled passengers. Outside. The bearded man hefted a nasty-looking launcher and walked step by step until he stopped five meters from Finneas. “You’ve got some skills, bro. Looks like your martial arts are no joke. Talk. Who are you people?” He was worried he’d picked the wrong targets and wanted to confirm who Finneas and the others were. Lin Shuainan had just made it through a hail of bullets without a scratch. With the main man standing right in front of him, he wasn’t scared at all. At this distance, his martial arts would work. He could take them down before they even moved. “Who we are is none of your business. Duan—” Lin Shuainan had just started when Finneas lifted a hand to stop him. The bearded man blinked, not catching what Lin Shuainan was about to say, and Finneas said coldly, “Passing through.” The bearded man’s whiskers practically fluttered. So they’d hit the wrong people. “Heh. Passing through, huh? Then we messed up. Guess we’re not friends till we fight. I’ll draw a line. You two brothers walk past and pretend you never saw us. Cool?” He stepped aside like he was giving way. But his lips curled into a cruel smile. Finneas and Lin Shuainan couldn’t keep walking forever; they’d have to turn back to get the car. The second they relaxed and turned around, he’d shoot. “Heh, I don’t buy that you’ve got eyes on your back besides your—” Right when he was feeling real pleased with himself, Finneas strode forward and brushed right past him. The bearded man’s eyes went wide. He didn’t expect Finneas to actually walk. Was this guy brain-dead? The next town was at least thirty kilometers ahead. Their feet would be raw by the time they got there. But as Finneas and Lin Shuainan passed, a flicker of killing intent shot through the bearded man’s eyes. He raised his gun and aimed at the backs of their heads. “Brat, I’ll send you straight to—” Click, click. He squeezed the trigger hard, ready to fire, but then he froze. No matter how hard he pulled, the trigger just clicked. Not a single bullet came out. “Heh. Beard, I knew you were up to no good. Your ammo’s with me.” Lin Shuainan let out a weird little laugh, turned around, and opened his palm—a handful of bullets lay in it. “You—when did you do that?” The bearded man’s eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Lin Shuainan wasn’t about to waste breath. He flicked the bullets fast. Whoosh, whoosh. Air whistled. A few robbers screamed and went down, and Lin Shuainan’s hand clamped around the bearded man’s throat. Thud, thud, thud—the coach erupted in chaos. “Boss, what’s happening?” “Damn! You punk! Let go of our boss!” “Kid, hands off, or we’ll open fire!” A few guys popped up just in time to see Lin Shuainan gripping the bearded man, and that other one—the one who didn’t even look human—Finneas, staring at them ice-cold. Panic hit all of them. The gun barrels aimed at the two men shook uncontrollably.
