Chapter 5

  • Johanne is ready to escape for the weekend after her embarrassing encounter with Bruno. All she wants is to see her baby, Ángel, who is about to turn 3 months old. But she spends most of her time with George and his wife, only getting to enjoy her son on the weekends.
  • As she's getting ready to leave, Eduard stops her.
  • "Johanne, I need your help with Jhin this weekend. I have an exclusive event, and I can't take him. I'll pay you extra for the days," he says without even asking if she's available.
  • "Sir, I'm sorry, but you know I have a little baby I can't neglect, and these two days are for spending time with him."
  • "Didn't you read the fine print in your contract?" he asks with seriousness and apathy.
  • "No, what do you mean?"
  • "As Jhin's nanny, you must be available 24/7 for his care whenever I require it," he states, making her pale. She hadn't read the fine print of her contract.
  • "I'm sorry, but I can't, Mr. Eduard," she says, determined to leave. But she stops when she hears his words.
  • "I have no problem with your baby spending the weekend with you. Please bring him," he says. Johanne hesitates, torn between staying alone in the mansion with Eduard's brother and taking Ángel with her.
  • "Oh, sir! Do I have the option to say no?" she frowns.
  • "Of course not, Johanne! You must be here this weekend. Go get your son. I'll wait for you in two hours; I have to leave," Eduard says, leaving her no room to object. Johanne pouts like a little girl but eventually goes to get Ángel.
  • When she returns, she finds Jhin throwing a tantrum, clinging to his father's leg.
  • "Daddy, don't leave me with her! You promised we'd go to soccer!" Jhin clings tighter to his father's leg, his screams echoing throughout the mansion.
  • "Son, I told you that Johanne and Ángel will be with you this weekend. If I can make it back before two on Sunday, I'll take you," Eduard tries to break free, but Jhin won't let go.
  • "No, no! I don't want to! Take me with you, please!" Jhin's crying is desperate.
  • "Come on, my love, let's go play," Johanne extends her hand, holding Ángel in her other arm. But Jhin immediately rejects her.
  • "I don't want to play with you! It's not playtime anymore. Go away with your baby!" Jhin breaks free from his father and approaches her just to kick her.
  • "Jhin! My God!" Johanne can only feel the immense pain in her leg. Tears well up in her eyes. To make matters worse, her baby starts crying too. Both Jhin and Ángel are making Eduard's departure unbearable. He has to leave.
  • "I don't know how you're going to handle this, Johanne, but I have to go," Eduard says, looking at his son with some anger. "We'll talk later, you little rascal." Eduard leaves the mansion without saying goodbye, leaving Johanne alone and knowing this weekend won't be pleasant. She tries to calm her baby, but Jhin doesn't even want her to look at him.
  • Johanne was captivated by her little one. She couldn't stop looking at him and feeling overjoyed to have him by her side. While she was with him, she drifted off to sleep, completely losing track of time and momentarily forgetting about little Jhin. It was only when Greis came out with dinner in hand that she remembered.
  • "Miss Johanne, it's past the child's dinner time. Where is he?" Johanne suddenly woke up, still groggy.
  • "You're right, Greis. I guess he's in his room. I'll leave my baby here. Can you watch him for a moment?"
  • "Yes, go quickly. I hope everything's fine. You can't leave young Jhin alone for a moment."
  • "I'm sorry, I know that" Johanne said and rushed up the stairs to Jhin's room, calling his name. She thought he might have fallen asleep, but to her surprise, his bed was empty.
  • "Jhin, where are you, little one? Jhin!" She searched every inch of his room, the closet, and all the spaces, but the child was nowhere to be found. Johanne started to feel a deep sense of worry. Unfortunately, the mansion was too large, and there were too many rooms. She began searching room by room, but with no success. She rushed down the stairs to where Greis was.
  • "What happened, miss? Where is the child?" Greis paled when she saw Johanne's face.
  • "I can't find him. This must be a nightmare!" Johanne began to break into a cold sweat. She approached her little Angel, who was still asleep. She grabbed her head in her hands, nerves taking over.
  • "Calm down, he must be around here somewhere." Greis went to the kitchen to search, and Johanne did the Georgee. Her worst fear was that something had happened to him due to her carelessness, and she felt awful.
  • Both she and Greis searched every corner of the house, imagining the worst. Johanne wished the ground would open up and swallow her. She felt a gaping hole in her stomach, didn't know what to do, and had completely lost control. What was going to happen now? She sat down in one of the chairs in the grand hall, shaking uncontrollably and fearing the worst. She knew that besides losing her job, something happening to the child would be catastrophic.
  • "Johanne, we need to call the police and Mr. Collen. We're in big trouble." Greis looked at her with terror in her eyes, knowing what awaited them. Even though it was the nanny's fault, she would also face consequences.
  • Johanne couldn't stop crying and lamenting, but after searching everywhere, even under the plants, she had no choice but to accept that Greis should call Eduard. When she was about to do so, the mansion's doors opened. To Johanne's surprise, Bruno was coming in, holding the child's hand.
  • "What the...?" Johanne ran towards Jhin, knelt down to his level, checked him all over, and then glared furiously at her uncle.
