- The wind carried the scent of rain over the cliffs, but the storm hadn’t broken yet. It hung in the air like a warning, heavy and electric. Elira stood at the edge of the stone balcony that overlooked the ravine, her hands gripping the railing hard enough to leave marks on her skin. The torches behind her flickered as Kael approached, his footsteps muted on the worn stone.
- “You’re trembling,” he said, voice low.
- “I’m thinking,” she whispered. “Trying to figure out how we’ve survived all of this—why we keep surviving.”
