- Aside from their academic pursuits, Solana was still looking for... well, for something specific. She'd been told she'd know when she found it. Just before Valentines Day, Solana remembered Professor Holden. He'd taught her Advanced Microbiology. It was a Senior-level class that she took in her sophomore year. She'd breezed through that course just like she'd breezed through everything else. For his part, he'd been very impressed with the young girl so adeptly soaking up his knowledge so readily.
- She remembered him being quite attractive but having very little self-confidence outside his lecture hall. He was an excellent teacher, if a bit dry, and he had an absolute command of the subject matter. But outside the classroom, he felt himself a total loser.
- She remembered an instance from while she was still in his class. He was eating in the cafeteria, not bothering anyone. An attractive co-ed came up to him to ask him something about the class she was taking. As usual, his command of the subject matter was absolute. Yet while they were talking, the girl's meathead jock boyfriend came up to them, asking, "Why you talking to this loser?" Mortified, the girl told him that Dr. Holden was her teacher. The guy cut her off, saying there was nothing that geek could possibly teach her that she'd need. Regretfully, the girl meekly apologized to Dr. Holden and abruptly left with her boyfriend. What struck Solana was how this successful, accomplished educational professional simply took this abuse from this cocky imbecile without uttering a word in his own defense. Clearly the man had an incredibly poor self-image.
