Just before he rounded the corner of the gym at last period, he pulled his phone out to check for messages but was disappointed to see that he didn't have a response yet. He figured that probably gave him his answer right there, and shrugged. At least he had tried. There were five other girls to be friends with anyway.
When he rounded the corner and headed for the classroom at the end of the hall, he was surprised to see Kaori leaning against the door. She saw him approach and stared at him with a blank expression, which made him incredibly nervous. Was she angry and waiting to give him a piece of her mind? He slowed his pace but continued walking toward her as their eyes met.
"Hey," he said as he drew closer, trying to keep things friendly. No one else was around but they might be inside the classroom already.
