Chapter 1 Who Are You?
- Twenty hours before the wedding, my fiancé, Edward Ashford, was involved in a car accident, suffering severe head trauma that left him with temporary amnesia.
- When I rushed to the hospital in a panic, I had already anticipated countless possible situations.
- What I never expected was to see Edward holding Adeline Beaumont, his ex-lover, in an intimate embrace. And the man who had always been so cold even lowered his head and kissed Adeline passionately, as though there were only the two of them in the entire world.
- “Adeline, you don’t know how panicked I was the moment I woke up..."
- Collapsing against Adeline’s shoulder, Edward sobbed, making his already fragile face look even paler.
- “I was so afraid I would never see you again..."
- Standing there and watching this warm, intimate scene, I suddenly felt as though I were nothing more than an outsider.
- I cleared my throat to draw their attention, desperately suppressing the pain tightening in my chest as I gave Edward a faint smile.
- “Edward, I came to visit you.”
- Hearing my voice, Edward instinctively frowned. By reflex, he held Adeline even tighter in his arms, looking at me with guarded suspicion.
- “Who are you?”
- The utter unfamiliarity in his eyes caused the strained smile at the corner of my lips to freeze.
- Biting my lip, my voice was already hoarse.
- “I’m Aurora Kensington, your fiancée.”
- I emphasized the words, my voice trembling as well.
- “We’ve been in love for five years, and getting married tomorrow.”
- I lifted my head to look at Edward, wanting to find the gentle gaze I had always known whenever he looked at me. Instead, I only saw Edward let out a laugh.
- “Fiancée?”
- He didn’t answer me. Instead, he glanced at his mother, Seraphina Hart, who was standing beside him, and raised an eyebrow mockingly.
- “Mom, is this another joke you came up with to drive a wedge between Adeline and me? Or are you trying to take advantage of this opportunity to force me into a business marriage?”
- Edward gritted his teeth bitterly.
- “I know you’ve always looked down on Adeline, thinking she isn’t worthy of me, so you’ve always tried to tear us apart. But you wouldn’t go as far as making up something like this, would you?”
- Glancing toward me, he curled his lips into a scornful smile.
- “You’re Aurora, right? Then remember this, in this lifetime, I will only ever love Adeline. Besides..."
- He clicked his tongue, looking me up and down.
- “You’re not my type, so there’s no way we could have been in love for five years.”
- Every word he spoke fell like a blade, leaving my heart bleeding profusely.
- I took a step back, feeling as though my breath had caught in my throat.
- Glancing at Edward’s mother, I saw that her eyes were no less shocked than mine.
- After that, of course, Edward was taken away for a long series of comprehensive and complicated examinations.
- When he returned, his mother pulled me out into the hallway and spoke wearily.
- “Aurora..."
- Seraphina called my name, her voice sinking.
- “Edward’s body hasn’t suffered any serious injuries, but the trauma to his head has caused Edward’s memories to stop at seven years ago, when he and Adeline were deeply in love..."
- Glancing at my deathly pale face, she pressed her lips together and, choking back her emotions, spoke each word slowly.
- “He doesn’t remember you at all. To him, you’re no different from a complete stranger..."
- Those words struck me like a bolt of lightning, tearing my heart apart.
- My legs went weak, nearly giving way beneath me, and everything before my eyes suddenly went dark.
- Five years of love, all the sweet memories between us, Edward had forgotten every single one of them. He was no longer the man who had loved me so deeply, who wanted me by his side in everything he did, who had always been eager to marry me.
- He had forgotten our wedding, remembering only the passionate love he held for his ex-lover.
- Every single thing was enough to leave me suffocating in pain.
- “For the time being, I’ll cooperate with you to help Edward regain his memories. However, try not to stimulate him too much..."
- Seraphina reminded me tactfully, leaving me with no choice but to nod.
- When I returned to the hospital room, I saw Adeline nestled in Edward’s arms, giggling as they chatted intimately.
- The moment he saw me walk in, Edward coldly ordered me to leave.
- “If you’re shameless enough to stay, I won’t hesitate to call the bodyguards and have them drag you out like a piece of trash.”
- Edward emphasized the words with undisguised contempt.
- With no other choice, I had to return to the mansion.
- I searched for the keepsakes from our relationship, planning to return to the hospital tomorrow and give them to Edward so that he could slowly regain his memories.
- However, by midnight, I saw Edward return.
- He pulled Adeline inside by the hand, and when he saw me, his brows immediately furrowed in displeasure.
- “My parents have even let you move in here? How disgusting!”
- He gritted out the insult before casually lifting his chin.
- “From now on, Adeline will be staying here. If you think you can stay, then stay. Otherwise, get out as soon as possible.”
- He casually pulled Adeline farther inside, then suddenly turned his head.
- “Ah, you said tomorrow is our wedding, didn’t you?”
- I froze, a glimmer of hope flashing in my eyes as I stared at him without blinking.
- Had Edward remembered something?
- But in the very next second, the cold smile on his lips extinguished the last shred of hope in my heart.
- “Then cancel it. I don’t want to marry a stranger.”
