- "My room. Midnight."
- It was just past 10:00 p.m. when Lizzie said those words to me. I shared a first floor bedroom with three of my friends. Lizzie had the large bedroom on the third floor to herself. Each year, parents and "kids" put their names into a hat to decide who would get the master suite. You'd think that this kick ass room would go to one of our parents, but the rule agreed on by all was that everyone was included in the drawing, since all the kids were now adults too.
- The suite occupied the entirety of the third floor. There were breathtaking views of the mountains through floor to ceiling windows along each wall. The cherry on top was a circular fireplace in the middle of the room with a chimney that went straight up to pinnacle of the roof above. There was wall-to-wall thick pile carpeting that made the room extra cozy. It was the perfect place to enjoy a winter slumber after a long day on the slopes. I was sure it would also prove to be an ideal retreat for Lizzie and I. The third floor location allowed seclusion. Plus, everyone was exhausted after four full days on the slopes, so all inhabitants would be dead asleep by midnight.
