Chapter 15 He’s Peculiar

  • Iris felt a lot more at ease after coming out of the luxurious room. Earlier, she felt like she was close to suffocating in there. While she was being defiant toward the end, she had actually felt incredibly nervous on the inside.
  • She was afraid that Lucas would take coercive measures against her and make it impossible for her to get away tonight. Fortunately, he let her go for the time being.
  • But, where could she go now? She and Dexter did have a house, but that house was more or less in ruins now. Furthermore, she did not want to go back and face her father since there was nothing she could say, and it would be eternally awkward.
  • “Do you mind coming in for a chat?”
  • She had walked toward the elevator. Before she stepped in, a door opened suddenly and a coquettish woman stuck her head out.
  • I know her, Iris thought. She was the woman by Lucas’ side, who helped me put on my clothes last time. Iris was familiar with this woman.
  • “Me? Are you talking to me?”
  • Nonetheless, she was still taken aback since she did not know what they possibly had to chat about.
  • “Do you think there’s anyone else in this corridor?”
  • This person was Jenna, but she looked rather moody. After she spoke, she just left the door open and waited for Iris to let herself in.
  • Very well. I don’t have anywhere to go right now, so I might as well see what this woman has up her sleeve.
  • “What is it? Is there a problem?”
  • Iris could feel Jenna looking at her in a strange way. This woman has charming eyes and a piercing gaze. Why won’t Lucas let go of me when he has a woman like her by his side?
  • “I really don’t understand how you seduced Young Master Lucas. There’s nothing special about you. You look… decent. What were you doing in his room earlier?”
  • Jenna’s tone of voice made Iris feel uncomfortable. They had obviously not done anything in the room, but she made it seem like they did something inappropriate.
  • “You’ve misunderstood. It’s not what you think. I’ve never tried to seduce Lucas. He’s the one who keeps clinging onto me,” Iris clarified. She did not want people to have the wrong impression of her.
  • Jenna snickered. “Did I scare you? You were in his room for exactly forty-three minutes. During this time, there was crying, criticizing, arguing, and silence. There wasn’t enough time left which means you two weren’t able to do anything,” she informed after looking at her watch out of habit.
  • Iris was dumbstruck that she had the time down to the minute. If it was not a work habit, then this woman must have been keeping watch on her every move.
  • She smirked. Since Jenna already knows everything, I guess I don’t have to explain any further. There’s no need for that.
  • “Did Young Master Lucas give you a contract?”
  • Contract? Is she talking about that unfair agreement? How much does Jenna actually know? “Yes, he forced me. Did a lot of girls receive a similar agreement as well?” Iris felt like she had fallen into a pit. First time? Everything he said was a lie.
  • “Over the 1476 days I’ve been by his side, I’ve only ever seen him use a contract as a restraint on the other person in anything he does. It’s how he does things, so I didn’t think you’d be an exception this time. I can tell you this though: Lucas never makes promises with a girl. Your relationship is purely contractual. Once the contract is fulfilled, you just have to stay far, far away.”
  • Iris could tell that Jenna was giving her a warning. Nevertheless, she had never expected anything from that man either. She was more than thankful that he helped her solve her issue. On the other hand, she found Jenna to be an interesting woman. “Don’t worry. I won’t get caught up with your Young Master Lucas.”
  • “Young Master Lucas has a peculiar lifestyle. He likes makeup, even more than I do. He doesn’t eat deep-fried food. He likes to have some dessert with tea and he likes to cause a racket when he’s deep in thought…”
  • Iris couldn’t comprehend what she had heard. Drinking tea with dessert? She felt like these things just did not go well with each other. People are usually silent when they’re deep in thought, but he likes to cause a racket? How peculiar is this man?
  • “You don’t have to tell me these things. I’m strictly his friend with benefits. I won’t interfere with his personal life.”
  • In her eyes, those things about him were truly superfluous.
  • “You need to know these things. But, at least you’re wise for knowing your place. It’s for the best.”
  • “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving now.”
  • Iris stood up to leave. It did not seem as though her interaction with Jenna had gone very smoothly.
  • “Take this. Your room is downstairs.”
  • Looking at the room card Jenna handed to her, Iris wondered, What does this mean? Did they book a room for me already?
  • “Um…”
  • “Young Master Lucas prepared this. He was worried your husband would go back and harass you, so he prepared a room for you here where you’ll be safe.”
  • Even though Lucas was quite domineering, he was still thoughtful.
  • Nonetheless, Iris would have never imagined that he would also be waiting for her at her door.
  • As soon as she saw him, she turned around to leave.
  • “Stop right there. Did that woman have so much to say? What did she say to you?”
  • Iris could only turn back around. She noticed that he did not look too pleased; his smile had vanished and was replaced with a stern look.
  • “Nothing much. We just had a brief exchange before I came down here.”
  • “Annoying woman.”
  • “Oh, right. Thanks for booking this room for me.” She only remembered to thank him now.
  • “No problem. The hotel is running a business. I don’t think it matters who they did business with. It’s all the same.”
  • She paused. What does that mean? At that moment, however, he stopped paying attention to her and started heading toward the elevator.
  • “Oh, the luxury suite I prepared for you is 3888 a night. This is already a discounted price. Remember to pay for the room at the checkout tomorrow.”
  • D*mn it. Isn’t this a rip-off? When have I ever stayed in such an expensive room before?
  • “I’m broke. I don’t want to stay here.”
  • “You can leave, but the room can’t be canceled. It was registered under your name, so you can decide for yourself whether you want to leave or stay.”
  • “Lucas, you…” Her face was flushed. When is he going to stop tormenting me?
