• It's all that'd been on offer at home. That and giving half my takings to a dirty old man who would have thought he was entitled to freebies. I knew girls that did that. All of them were taking drugs. Smoking pot or tripping on LSD to get through. One or two I'd been to school with had taken that route. I shuddered at the thought of how close I'd been to following them.
• I'd bathed and made myself look my best but I still worried that I would make a terrible mistake leaving the room naked. My mind talk doubted everything. Had the instructing letters been a dream? Had Tina been tricking me? Was this some elaborate plan to embarrass me?
• I was terrified when I eventually opened the door. In one way I hoped I'd see one of the other girls. Naked and comfortable as evidence this was all real. In another, I wouldn't see anyone. But that was just putting off the inevitable.
