Chapter 6 Token

  • I kept my eyes glued on Mrs. Anne sleeping on her bed, all covered up with the blanket, while I was freezing to death on my wooden seat that I have been sitting on for an hour now because the room is insanely cold. I haven't brought my sweater with me and it is damn freezing in here. I would wish to make the temperature higher but I'm too shy to say anything.
  • We have been quiet for an hour now and I wouldn't want to talk to Hugo because I don't know how to start a conversation with him and he is actually busy too. I wouldn't want to disturb him as well because he looks so focused on his seat. He is really a busy man now as what I've read on the news. He's busy making music, producing music with his own well-known record label and that infamous company of his.
  • But seeing a busy thirty-year-old Hugo working on his laptop makes me think that he has finally matured. He has finally grown up so as his fans. He wasn't the Satellite Patrol lead vocalist who used to sing songs for his fans, play lead guitar, but now instead he makes and writes music for other artists which is even amazing.
  • I kept on stealing glances from him because even if he aged, he's still as hot as he used to before. I think he got hotter now that he's older. He looks so cool right now, sitting on a desk-like table, while his eyes were glued on his laptop, his brows furrowing, he's so focused and it's so sexy. He would write down on those sheets of paper right next to him and he wouldn't take off his eyes from his laptop.
  • Focused but so damn freaking hot.
  • I remember how a huge fan I was back in the day. I remember my room filled with their posters. I had their standees. I remember buying every album, every perfume and every merchandise I would see that has their faces. I was a crazy-ass SatPatter and I am proud of it. I was proud I've been part of that huge family.
  • But as the years pass by, I've gotten curious about the five boys who changed my life. Seeing Hugo, wearing suit and tie, like a businessman that he is now, I wanted to ask him so badly how his life has been after Satellite Patrol split up. I wanted to know what happened to the other lads. I wanted to know how the other four has been doing. I wanted to know if he is planning on pursuing on singing, I wanted to know about Landon too.
  • I smile to myself when I think about Landon. I remember how sweet and thoughtful he was seven years ago. The letter and everything that morning.
  • Seven years ago. That hotel in L.A.
  • Where it all happened.
  • I want to ask Hugo if he saw my necklace because that necklace meant so much to me. I want to ask him about me too. I want to ask him about that night. I want to tell him about Ben.
  • I want to ask him so many things about what happened and tell him so many things that have happened but I'm scared of what he's going to say. I'm sure he has forgotten what happened to us too, it has been seven freaking years.
  • I gaze at my watch, and it was already one in the morning. I'm sleepy as hell but I know I shouldn't sleep because I'm guarding Mrs. Anne for the night. But he doesn't seem to be sleepy at all.
  • Wow, he’s an all nighter.
  • I hear Hugo groaning. I quickly pulled my head up to him and he was massaging his temples. He's tired but he's still working his ass off.
  • All of a sudden, I remembered how he walked around the room casually being fully naked at his hotel room. Oh my God, now is not the right time for that.
  • I blushed at what I thought of. How could I think of that as of the moment when he's here with me in one room?
  • You're such a dirty minded freak Miranda.
  • "Are you okay sir?" I tried to ask, making a conversation.
  • Sir.
  • Hugo opens his eyes and looks at me. He smiles so warmly, "I am. I’m just tired and busy with these paperwork."
  • "I can get you some medicine if you're having headache." I tell him.
  • "That's very nice of you. But no thanks. I'll be done any minute anyways." He answers.
  • He stares back on his laptop and started typing again. The sound of the keyboards when his fingers hits it, has been echoing through my ears. I think I'm going to have nightmares of that horrible sound. I take a deep breath in and shivered away the coldness.
  • The typing sound stopped.
  • "Cold?" He asked.
  • I opened my eyes and stared at Hugo. He noticed. Damn those blue-green eyes are truly remarkable. "I'm fine." I lied shyly.
  • "I can make the temperature a little bit higher for you."
  • I shake my head. "I'm fine sir. Thanks."
  • He looks back at his laptop and continues to ignore me. I never thought this is what it feels like being in one room with a conscious Hugo. He's insanely busy and even though he talks rarely and makes little conversations with me, it doesn't feel like he's a huge person. He doesn't show other people that he's insanely famous or he was part of the worldwide phenomenal band or he needs to be respected because he accomplished so much. He's so down-to-earth and he doesn't even show off what he has.
  • "Miranda. Wake up. Hey."
  • I groan and realized that I had fallen asleep. I begin to feel someone moving me. I slowly flutter my eyes open and see Lettie waking me up. I stretch my arms out and pulled myself up.
  • "What time is it?" I asked while yawning.
  • "It's already six in the morning."
  • I stare at my watch and it really is morning already. I looked around and saw nobody inside the room.
  • "Where's Mrs. Anne?" I asked Lettie.
  • "She's having her CT-Scan at the moment."
  • "And Mr. Saintclare?"
  • She smiles at me quickly. "He went out to buy something."
  • I nod and noticed that I was on the couch. My eyes widens. The same couch where Hugo sat down last night. I don't remember sleepwalking to the couch last night. I don't sleepwalk. And I don't even remember that I had fallen asleep.
  • I stared at myself and noticed that a black blazer was placed over me, it was covering me from the cold last night I think? But this was Hugo’s blazer. Oh the urge of wanting to smell his clothes right now is overflowing. But I can't because Lettie is here with me. That would be embarrassing.
  • She quickly sat down next to me and moved me with her shoulder. "So what happened last night?" She asked curiously.
  • My brows creasing. "What do you mean what happened last night?"
  • "Oh come on Miranda, Hugo Saintclare chose you instead of Mara to guard his mother for the entire night. That means something. It's impossible that nothing happened." She continues.
  • "Well, except for that Starbucks coffee that he bought me, nothing else happened." I tell her.
  • She smacks my shoulder. "Liar. How come he chose you? You two might have a connection or something."
  • "Lettie. I don't know what exactly you want to hear but all I did last night was guard his mother while he was busy typing on his laptop. That was it."
  • I pulled myself up from the couch and started folding Hugo’s blazer. I carefully placed it on top of Mrs. Anne's bed while Lettie was forcing me to tell her about the juicy details that happened last night.
  • Juicy?
  • Nothing special happened last night.
  • Nothing that I hope for.
  • "Lettie stop annoying me with what I should tell you because there's nothing. Mind your own business." I say, annoyingly.
  • She sighs.
  • "And your shift's about to end. Go home." I tell her but gasped as soon as I remembered, "Speaking of home, I need to go pick up my son and drive him to school. Gotta go Lettie. Bye."
  • "Take care Miranda!"
  • I walked out of the room and rushed to the pantry to grab my things then rapidly ran to the parking lot. When I got inside my car, I drove to Vivian's to pick my son up. I was about to get to her house, Ben was all ready out when I marched my way to the front door.
  • "Mommy!" He chimes and ran towards me.
  • I opened my arms for him and hugged him. I kiss his hair and squat down in front of him. "Didn't mommy tell you not to hug me when I come from a night shift?" I tell him.
  • He pouts. "Sorry. I just missed you. I was so scared last night. You weren't here when I woke up."
  • "I'm sorry sweetheart. Mommy was just busy at the hospital last night. But are you ready for school?"
  • He nods. "Yes! I brushed my teeth, see? I fixed my hair too. And I was even the one who put my clothes on me mommy."
  • I smile at him. "And I'm so proud. Go grab your bag, it's time to go."
  • Ben obeys and happily runs to his bag while Vivian walks to me. Gosh this woman is huge. I hugged her and she hugs me back.
  • "Thank you Viv." I say, pulling myself away from her.
  • "Oh Miranda, it's not a big deal. You know how I love you and Ben. You're like a family to me." She tells me.
  • "Thank you again. Remember when I told you last night about me staying up for a patient?"
  • She nods. "Yeah. Why?"
  • "I don't know if fate is playing fire with me. But last night the patient who asked for me was Hugo’s mother."
  • She gasped. "You mean the Hugo who got you preg--"
  • I nudge her to cut her off of what she was going to say. I glance at Ben who was busy talking to Arthur, Vivian's husband. Ben loves finding the attention of a father and it hurts me seeing my own son doing it because I'm such a coward mom who can't man up and tell the whole world the truth. But I thank Arthur for being nice to him.
  • "Mommy look! Uncle Arthur gave me $5! He said I can use it to buy toys but I want to use it for the two of us to have pizza for dinner tonight mommy!" Ben says happily as he runs to me.
  • I smiled at Ben. "Thank you Art."
  • He smiles back. "No big deal Miranda. Ben is like a son to me."
  • "Thank you. Let's get you to school honey. We need to go Viv. Thanks again." I say.
  • "You owe me something about what happened last night and you're welcome anytime in here honey. Be careful. Goodluck at school Benny!" Vivian kisses Ben's forehead.
  • Both of us headed out of their house and I drove my son to his school.
  • Later that day, I was thankful that it was finally my day off. I was just lounging at home the entire day, waiting for the time to pick up Ben from his school when a buzz came by my door and I rushed my way out of the front door.
  • "Hi ma’am. Are you Miss Miranda?" The delivery man asked with a box on his hand.
  • I nod. "Yeah. Why?"
  • "Could you sign here ma’am?"
  • He handed me a pen and I signed on the part where he pointed to.
  • "Here you go ma’am. Thanks." He walks away from my front door while I stare at this box on my hand.
  • I walk my way back inside the house and sat down on the living room. I began opening the delivery and it was a box of chocolates with different shapes and sizes.
  • Oh Ben would love this. I thought.
  • But who's it from? I didn't know I had secret admirers.
  • I giggle thinking at the words secret admirers. I never had those.
  • I quickly grabbed the small greeting card attached to the box.
  • Nurse Miranda,
  • I already know where the letter came from base from the greeting.
  • I shaky my head sideways and thought to myself, “Get your shit together Miranda.”
  • I wasn't able to thank you for what you did last night because you left early today. But before I leave for England tomorrow night, let me extend my gratitude by inviting you over for dinner tonight by 8PM at Alfonso's. I'll be expecting you.
  • Hugo Saintclare x
  • Holy fucking shit!
  • Hugo just asked me out for dinner!
