Chapter 5

  • We went out through a secondary corridor that led to the kitchen, we were not supposed to use, but it was an easy way to get out of the rooms faster, suddenly we heard two rumbles, I had never heard a shot, but it seemed that it was, so I was scared.
  • I stopped, fear took over my body, but Ann took my arm and pulled it so we could keep moving forward.
  • I wanted to think that everything would be fine, really, but if they had already shot, they had noticed that in the beds there were only a few pillows. It was completely dark, it looked like my aunt had gotten it right the night she broke me.
  • The door wouldn't open, it was locked, as if they knew we were going to escape, but we wouldn't give up, we would try to get out as if it were the last thing we would do, which now, was an option.
  • “Shit”. Anastasia remarked, we were both completely scared, and that feeling only increased when we heard footsteps coming towards the kitchen. We locked the door and tried to open the door again, but nothing worked, Ann could not with the pressure and took a chair with which, after several attempts, it broke, we left there with some glass splinters stuck in the wrists, but none deep enough to hurt us more than necessary.
  • We started to run, although we didn't know where we were going, it had been a long time since we had walked these streets and I wasn't going to my house, she didn't remember the address of hers either.
  • We heard another knock, they had forced the lock on the door with a shot, why don't they just give up, what did I do to deserve this? Nothing, I did nothing, but my aunt's ambition goes beyond the legal limits my father left her, that's why she's doing all this, with me dead she'll have it all to herself.
  • “Where are you?” a man asked. He sounded quite angry, surely, he would lose all the money offered to him by this woman who once called herself my family.
  • “You see me looking like a fortune teller, you. We must find him any way we can.” the fellow appeared. Suddenly, I could think of a place to hide, Julian's house could be our salvation.
  • “Ann, look at me.” I said as I realized I was lying on the floor, about to have a panic attack. “I know where we can hide, but it's so far from here, we have to make a really big effort not to be seen.” I mentioned.
  • “Okay.” She said stuttering, I've never seen her like this, she's supposed to be the woman who has the cold blood to keep her cool at times like this, isn't she?
  • We walked down an alley that led to the next street, always we kept in the shadow of the headlights, hidden in as much darkness as possible, those hired thugs were still close by, looking for me.
  • In the distance I saw a motorcycle, a few years ago I had one, I don't remember much how to drive it, but it was obvious that on foot we would never get there, it was the only way out of this crossroads.
  • “There's our way out”. I mentioned. “But we have to cross the street”. I added, knowing what that meant.
  • “We'll expose ourselves to the light of the headlights, you can see us”. replied to my friend. I nodded and put a hand on his shoulder.
  • “Don't worry, they don't want you, finish killing me”. I mentioned to reassure her, although I couldn't entirely guarantee she would be safe, after all, she would be a potential witness.
  • We ran across the street, a new shot rang out, the night was in complete silence making that noise echoing through the streets of this place.
  • “Get upstairs quickly!”. I mentioned to my friend, I was really working out to get out of this place.
  • I tried to turn the key on, but the damn thing wouldn't turn on, I didn't understand what was going on, but I tried again and again, why is this happening? Why now?
  • “Here's the girl!”. shouted one of the men calling the other, then a shot that hit a dumpster in front of where we were, the men were approaching quickly, and we were still in that same deplorable place and about to die for an injustice.
  • The motorcycle started and we left that place before they killed us, it seemed like a movie, although it was not, another shot was heard, I looked in the rearview mirror and it was a car, in the passenger seat came one of the men, shooting, I tried to accelerate, but unfortunately, if I did, I could lose control of the motorcycle.
  • “I'm going to try to lose them, okay?”. I mentioned almost in a whisper, all this was eating me up inside, but I had no options, I couldn't stop right now, or it would be the end of us. “We'll get out of this, Anastasia. I swear”. I mentioned again.
  • The night continued to advance at a slow pace, but thank God, I had lost those delinquents, we were able to travel calmly until we reached Julian's house, who, I hoped, would give us a hand.
  • We got off the motorcycle, Ann was behind me, everything seemed in perfect order, the house was just as I remembered it, only now, it was a little, off, I remembered Julian's mother very well, she was a very cheerful woman, she always tried to make her house look as flashy.
  • “What's going on?” my friend asked behind me, I shrugged.
  • “Nothing, just some memories”. I answered her question as truthfully as I could. “Julian!”. I shouted. “Julian open the door, please! Some men are looking for us”. I shouted again, but it seemed that no one opened, a light came on inside the huge house causing a thread of hope in my heart. “Julian please open the door for us”. I shouted.
  • Behind us a new light came on, it was that car, it has been following us all this time, lying in wait, waiting for us to stop, how clever they were.
  • “Julian, there's no time, open us at once!” I shouted again, hoping it would take pity on us and open the damn door to give us shelter. The door opened, the light cut my eyes a little, I heard a shot, and I threw myself to the ground, then those two more arrived, the only thing I hoped was that those two men would arrive soon to finish me, to finish the task my aunt had given them, but that didn't happen.
  • “Get up, girl”. A man appeared, I opened my eyes, the first thing that appeared in my field of vision was a hand, his hand, he was giving it to me so I could get up from the ground.
  • “That—those mans want to kill me”. I finished saying with great difficulty.
  • “They won't be a problem anymore. Antoine!”. he called someone from inside the house, he had a strange accent, but he couldn't recognize it. “I want you to take care of the bodies, disappear them or throw them in any corner, you know perfect what to do”. he says again.
  • I looked at the address where I had seen them a few minutes ago and they were lying on the floor, with a pool of blood around them, for a moment I felt happy, they for us, and that's when I noticed.
  • “Anastasia!” I screamed when I also saw her on the ground, blood was flowing from her mouth, I searched all over her body and a bullet had entered her abdomen, who knows that pierced that shot. “Do something!”. I shouted at the man who had saved my life.
