Chapter 6 Tragedy 3

  • “What? How did you get to know? Did the Works Manager inform you?”
  • “I saw the broadcast on the television in my school canteen. The Works Manager had not informed me yet. Meanwhile, I am on my way to the office. I will see him when I get there.”
  • “It is all right. Is father aware of it?”
  • “I think so. Probably, that explains why the news is not on the internet. I will call him after I am through with you.”
  • “That is good. Keep me informed of any development.”
  • “All right, dad.”
  • Since Mr. Jeffrey Morris reunited with his first love, Madam Jessica Murray, who he thought was killed three decades ago, he had slowed down on the running of the organization. He had carefully transferred his responsibilities to Jeff, who had been the Purple Tag Chairman for the past three years, and he had no doubt in his capabilities. However, Jeff was mindful of involving him in certain matters to avoid appearing incompetent. In these circumstances, he had no choice. To his relief, he got a call from him, and he picked at once.
  • “Hello, grandpa.”
  • “Hello, Jeffery. Where are you?”
  • “I am on my way to the Industrial Area.”
  • “That is good. What of Leon?”
  • “We are together. He is driving.”
  • “It is OK. I have deleted the news from the internet. Get the Head of the Media and Publicity to stop all the Media Houses from carrying on with the broadcasting.”
  • “It is noted, grandpa. How is grandma?”
  • “She is fine. See you later.”
  • “Thank you, grandpa, for your call.”
  • Now, Mr. Morris call had made his work easier for him. So, he put a call across to Mr. Barnabas Ferguson, the Head of the Media and Publicity at once, to Jeff’s dismay, he was on top of the situation.
  • “I have done that, Mr. Israel.”
  • “Oh! That is encouraging. I will be in the office in the next ten minutes and I would like to have a meeting with you.”
  • “It is noted, Mr. Israel.”
  • At the Cherry Fields Industrial Area
  • After ten minutes, they were at the gate of the Industrial Area.
  • “I would like to stop at the Medical Center.”
  • He announced as he picked his jacket which was always in his car from the grab handle, put it on and fastened his Purple Tag.
  • “All right, big brother.”
  • Leon, who had headed towards the Medical Center, accepted. Soon, he parked at the vestibule of the Medical Center. Then, Jeff got off at once and walked straight to the office of the Medical Director, Dr. Cyril Williams.
  • “Good day, Mr. Israel. I am glad to see you.”
  • Dr. Williams greeted after reading his countenance. Now, Jeff was not ready for pleasantries, so he went straight to the point.
  • “Good day, Dr. Williams. I would like you to find your way to the island and ensure that lives are not lost unnecessarily.”
  • Dr. Williams, who was not aware of any incident at the island, showed surprise and inquired.
  • “If I may ask, Mr. Israel. What happened at the island?”
  • “One of the twenty-story buildings collapsed at our island, and many lives are in danger.”
  • “I got it, Mr. Israel.”
  • “Do a good job and keep me updated. I will join you soon.”
  • “It is noted,”
  • Now, he got off the doctor’s office, walked back to the vestibule and got into his car. Leon, who would do anything to ensure that Jeff was comfortable, asked.
  • “Where next?”
  • “The office.”
  • Soon, he was at the Chairman’s office.
  • “I wish to have a meeting with the General Manager, the Head of the Media and Publicity and the Head of the Works Department, now.”
  • He informed Daniel Gauthier, the Chairman’s Secretary.
  • “It is noted, Mr. Israel.”
  • He responded as he set out to give Mr. Oliver Elliot, the General Manager, Mr. Donald Priestley, the Manager of the Works Department and Mr. Barnabas Ferguson a call. Jeff also informed the International Vice Chairman and the Chairman of the meeting and soon, the meeting began.
  • At the Medical Center of the Eagles City University
  • When Phina jumped down from the twentieth floor, the female security guard was devastated. She looked down and watched her descending the height of about 217 feet (66.14 m).
  • “Oh! My God.”
  • She screamed as she walked briskly to the elevator. She pressed the first floor button, and it opened. Then, she got in and Phina’s roommate walked in too. Soon, they were at their destination. Meanwhile, when they got to the supposed scene where Phina would have landed, to their consternation they did not see her body. Rather, they saw a truck trailer of 13.6 feet (4.15 m) high which had supplied some students’ mattresses as ordered by the school and the janitors were moving them to the store.
  • “Where is she?”
  • She inquired as she ran around, and the roommate followed her around too. Now, the Chief of the Security who was standing beside his car saw her when she got off the building. Then, he walked briskly towards her and inquired.
  • “What happened and where is the student?”
  • The distraught security officer gave him an account of what happened. Then, Mr. Morgan looked around the truck trailer and saw the janitors coming towards the truck. When they saw him, they stopped abruptly, wondering if they had done anything wrong.
  • “Good day, Mr. Morgan.”
  • The six janitors greeted in unison.
  • “Get inside the truck and tell me if there is someone inside.”
  • To their chagrin, the janitors did not question his order and one of them got into the truck through a ladder while the Chief of the Security and others watched him.
  • “What? We are not responsible for this, Mr. Morgan”
  • The scared janitor defended when he saw a lifeless student in the truck. Then, the anxious Mr. Morgan did not wait for his report, rather, he got into the truck through the ladder too to see things for himself. Then, he took a deep breath when he saw the lifeless body of Phina. Likewise, he brought out his phone from his back pocket and made a call to the Medical Director.
