Chapter 5 Start a dream to becime a star

  • After Kate left, everything became so lonely, it has been only a week since she left but it felt like a year, the normal boring route began. I leave for school in the morning and go through the long boring lectures from my teacher. During the lunch break, I would stare up at the sky as if I could count the clouds since there was no one to talk to.
  • After school I go straight to my parents' cookie shop, help a bit and then return home for the night. I could no longer eat like I used to, I lost all my appetite just like I lost the reason to smile and nothing interests me anymore, everything just seems to lose its colours to me.
  • “Ivana.” I heard my name and turned to look at my father who had just called out my name, he was with a note on his hands and I could tell it was something about making a new recipe for his cookies.
  • I left what I was doing and walked over to him. “Yes dad,” I said weakly and sat next to him. My father was quite huge and even as a big girl of twenty-one I still look small, I love him this way, I feel safe knowing I have a big dad who would protect me.
  • If I did something wrong in school since I was so clumsy and good at looking for troubles, I always feel that when the teachers go silent after seeing my father, he is not wealthy, but his looks make people respect him.
  • “You look clouded, what is wrong?” He looked at my face and I could tell that he already knew I was bothered by something. My father was good at reading my expressions. “Talk to your father.”
  • I lean back to the chair wondering how to tell him I want to leave this little town and leave my school to a place I know I belong.
  • “My friend Kate Billy transferred out of our school,” it wasn’t as if they don’t know about it, but the part they aren’t aware of was that it is so lonely here, although I have my parents, a child needs a friend or someone that could make them happy while chitchatting.
  • “Which school did she transfer to?” He asked me and I looked at my father. I know I must have worried him and my mother with my recent mood, but with time I could stop acting this way or would I die of boredom?
  • “Larry High, a school in the city, it makes people into a star.” I flashed him a smile in order not to make it obvious that I wish to attend the school if money permits it.
  • “Do you also want to attend that school?” He asked me seriously and I could hear my inner goddess screaming yes!
  • I smiled and looked away from my dad. “No dad, it is expensive and I don’t know anyone in the city so where would I stay,” Even if I have the perfect opportunity to go to that expensive school, what about living expenses and apartment bills. “I am just sad I would be lonely here, but school is school anyway.” I looked at my father with a convincing smile.
  • “Ivana, you love music now right?” He raised his brows but I pressed my lips together, not wanting to respond. “I heard from your mother that you attend a show and never miss any of it and I also heard about your dream to stand on stage one day and be cheered on by fans.”
  • “That is just my unrealistic dream.” I shook my head. Was it? I heard a voice in my head ask and I sighed softly in my heart.
  • “Do you love music?”
  • “Yes, dad, who doesn’t love music?” I looked at my father. “Don’t worry dad, I just need time, whereas I will be in contact with Kate.” I flashed him a smile and went up. “I will finish up what I was doing.”
  • I walked away, I believe I better start acting like my cheerful self again in order not to get them more worried about me, with time things could change and I would come up with another dream that best suits this place and me.
  • I finished having dinner with my parents and was about to leave the living room when I was called over by them. I sat down curiously looking at their faces and waiting for what they had to tell me.
  • I have eaten and had tried my best to engage in a conversation with them and tomorrow I was planning on happily making cookies with my mother and then the day after tomorrow I would try to go on a field trip and so on until I chase this loneliness away.
  • “You should prepare…”
  • I was about to ask them their reason for asking me here when I heard these words from my father and I looked at him with a puzzled expression.
  • “Prepare for what?” I lifted my brow slightly, it has been too busy in the shop and I was sure we only go for a picnic on summer days not winter and it was snowing heavily recently, so it can’t be for a picnic.
  • “You are going to Larry High.” The words came from my mother and it struck me like lightning and I was speechless for a while.
  • “Larry High?” I gaze at them in surprise. “How?”
  • “We have just processed your transferred papers,” my father told me and I looked at him and they were both nodding as they handed me the file, I didn’t glance at it and I embraced them with tears of joy in my eyes.
  • “Thank you so much mom, thank you so much, dad.” They both pat me lightly on my back and I remembered something essential and looked at them.  “Where would I stay?”I watched my father and mother share a knowing gaze before they looked at me.
  • “An old friend of mine is willing to take you in, she owns a place in the city and she is very happy to know you are coming over.” My mother told me and I couldn’t remember knowing anyone that close to my mother, but she had said it was a long time ago and I was always at Kate’s house and didn’t know much about anything going on at home.
  • “Here is her contact and address.” My mother hands it to me and I glance at it. “You should prepare your things because you are going to the city tomorrow.”
  • I bite down my lips in joy and look up at them with blue eyes. “Have I ever told you both that I love you so much?”
  • “We love you more baby.” They both beamed and told me to go get my things ready. I embraced them before heading to my room. Once inside I dialled Kate’s number and told her the news as I danced around the room.
  • “I am happy for you, best friend, I miss you and the students here are just so full of themselves and none of them is like you Ivana, I am so glad you are coming over,” Kate told me with joy, I could tell that she also missed me and I miss her more.
  • “I am very happy too and I am getting my things ready, I will get to see you again and be with you, Katy.” I grinned as I pulled out my luggage to prepare my things.
  • “Where are you going to stay, you can come to stay with me at my apartment,” Kate suggested. I know she shares the apartment with a roommate and I didn’t want to bother her, whereas my mother had secured somewhere else for me.
  • “My mother’s friend is willing to take me in, I would be staying there with her,” I told Kate.
  • “I am very happy for you, I have got a lot to tell you and I have seen Hinn Carlos a lot now, I am no longer thrilled to see him anymore, there are a lot more handsome men over here,” Kate told me but I know I won’t get tired of wanting to see Hinn, this was just so awesome, I would have a lot of time to look at Hinn’s face.
  • “I can’t wait to see them too.” I smile. While growing up with Kate, we take our time looking at cute boys and we draw hearts on them and rate their cuteness, it was just part of the fun for us, there were a few men here who we rate cute but none of them beats the looks we saw in Hinn Carlos, and maybe Kate was no longer thrilled because she had seen others that are quite charming and now I also can’t wait to see them too.
  • My parents stuffed my baggage with foodstuffs and Cupcakes and also handed me some money and I looked at all these and then at them, they were even looking worried that it wasn’t enough for me, this was the first time I was going away from them.
  • “Mom, Dad, this is too much, I can’t accept money.” I handed it back but my father put it back into my bag.
  • “Ivana, it is the city and we won’t be there with you, I am not even sure this would be enough for you, I should go add more,” He turned to get more things but I stopped him.
  • “Dad, I will be fine.” I was on the verge of tears. As much as I wanted to go to the city, I would also miss my parents a lot.
  • “Make sure to wear something warm on snowy and rainy days,” My mother told me as she adjusted my neck scarf. “and do not fall ill, if it is difficult you can always return home anytime, okay?” her voice came out hoarse and I embraced her.
  • “I will be fine and I will call you often, you both should also stay healthy,” I told her softly and my father joined the hug.
  • “I will miss your presence with him, good luck my child, now go on and call us when you get there.” He told me and I nodded, my mother kissed my forehead and I got into the cab that had just arrived to take me.
  • As it drove off I waved my parents goodbye and gazed at the small apartment I have shared with them for twenty-one years now before leaning back to the back seat. I won’t miss this place, the only people I will miss were my parents.
  • There was no prince charming, it was only my parent and my mother friend who was like my godmother, my parent made a way for me to leave and my mother’s friend is offering me a place to stay, this was so awesome, I didn’t need a prince charming, this was reality and not fairytales, this was me, finally going to the City to start my dream and possibly become a star.
