Chapter 6
- Unfortunately, Detention was a death sentence. Sitting at a table all by yourself, wondering when it would end. It was hell. There are about five students in the classroom. Eric, Heather sat in the middle row. One of the boys beside Heather put his hood on and laid his head down. Eric was in the third row seat, behind Heather. The supervising teacher, Mr. Martin, 50's, was fast asleep in his chair, legs hanging on the desk with a magazine on his chest. The door was open. There were names on the detention list hanging on the door.
- Suddenly, Heather's phone chimes. It's a message from an unknown person. She reads it.
- 'HELLO HEATHER. IT'S BEEN A LONG TIME. '
- She attaches a reply. 'WHO'S THIS?'
- Another message bings on her phone. 'ALEXA MAURY. NOT THAT YOU'D REMEMBER. '
- Heather looks surprised and replies her text. 'THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE. HOW DID YOU GET MY NUMBER?'
- When Heather grabs her phone, she sees another text:
- 'MAYBE U SHOULD ASK HARPER OR MAYBE NOT. SHAME HE COULDN'T BE HERE. LOVE THE T-SHIRT, BRINGS OUT THE THE COLOR OF YOUR EYES. '
- After reading it, Heather turns around and looks back at the classroom where Alexa Maury is sitting at her desk, smiling. She holds up her cellphone. Heather looks horrified and shocked to see her.
- Meanwhile, Jovi and Mark have just arrived at a High class restaurant for a normal date - night activity downtown called RUSSOS. Mark pulls out a chair for Jovi who is wearing a fancy red dress. She sits down. One of the restaurant waiters come with the menus and drops it on the table. Mark waves NO to him, and he leaves. Jovi looks happy and smiles.
- "Mark, when you said we were hanging out, I didn't think it would be --"
- "Perfect?" Mark interjects.
- She smirks. "Yeah. I guess....how did you get a reservation?"
- "Pfff. Easy. My Dad Daryl Russell is friends with the owner. These are perks."
- Jovi is stunned and tries her best to cover it up. Like how could she not know. "So -- you guys are like, rich?"
- "We're doing okay."
- "Oh my God. I had no idea this entire time. Russell, the real estate dude, quite famous on TV shows. How could I forget?"
- "That's the one. Sorry. I should've told you about that." Mark paused. "When we bumped into each other at the store, you didn't care about who I was --"
- "I still don't care actually," cuts in Jovi.
- "Exactly. That's what I'm saying. You're like the person I wanna be when I grow up."
- Mark wasn't a braggart. His Dad owned a financial investor and made most of his money off his real estate business. Many people wondered why he was still single up to date. After all, he was rich dude with some nickels to spend.
- About three months ago, the death of Dylan hit Jovi pretty hard. She locked herself up in a room for eight days, wouldn't eat or talk to anyone.
- Then she decided it was too much to handle and went to the nearest supermarket to buy herself a poison.
- And then, of all people...Mark bumped into her at an aisle. He was just some random guy. But as he saw the contents of what she was buying he knew something was up.
- "Hey. I'm so sorry. Let me help you with that, " said Mark. He bends down and tries to gather the items scattered on the floor. But Jovi was hesitant.
- "I don't need your help. I just wanna be left alone." Jovi insisted.
- "That might be trendy, but everybody needs somebody," Mark said, thrusting his hands into his pocket.
- "Clearly, that's not me."
- "I know all hope feels lost. Trust me, i know. I've been there. Just don't give up yet."
- Jovi was speechless. Just looked up to stare at those innocent blue eyes that stared right back at her. I think he saw something desperate her eyes.
- As Mark extended his hand and grabbed Jovi up to her feet. Jovi followed him back home. And then she came to love him in return. Mark, gave her a reason to live. He saved her life. Mark saved her.
- Currently, Mark reaches out to grab Jovi's hand . "Hey, you can talk about him if you want. I've been there. My mom died when I was way too young to remember. My Dad was a pain in the ass but she managed to make things work."
- Jovi giggles, slightly before Mark continues.
- "We all have our sob stories don't we? We just have to live in the moment. So are you ready?"
- Jovi nods and grabs one of the menus on the table. She quickly covers up any concern by giving him a weak smile. "Yeah. Let's do this."
- After changing into a cut out sexy A - line dress, Melissa stands in front of the mirror at Bailey's house while applying lipstick. Truly, she was having second thoughts about going. She flaunts her dress, looking from side to side. She stares at the mirror longingly. Her phone rings, she answers it. It's Bailey who's already dressed up in a leather body con dress, on a road. The street is empty, with cars parked on both sides of the road.
- "Girl where are you? I've called you like a million times," said Melissa.
- "Had to make a pit stop. Put on something sexy tonight. It's gonna be bang bang with Cooper, that's for sure," replied Bailey.
- "I don't even know what the hell that means. This is why I never said YES in the first place." Melissa said. She didn't have that infatuated confidence as her boyfriend once had. Now that he was gone, she felt like she was all alone, shrouded in darkness.
- "Don't get cold feet on me right now. I promise to pump the brakes on this whole thing with Cooper if you don't dig him," Bailey grinned her teeth. And just stared up ahead, waving Melissa's concerns away. "Look, a guy who's willing to give you his time. Now that's extremely hard to come by."
- "It's just --"
- "It's just what Melissa?"
- "Well, I don't know. Bad memories of what happened to Dylan keeps flooding in over and over again -- it's hard to explain."
- That's when Melissa remembers Kevin Somers 16, athletic, strong, arrogant. A semi rival of Dylan Winchester, 16, hazel green eyes, dark haired Caucasian. Kevin lost his brother Trevor Somers at the hands of a werewolf Ashley Jones who pushed him off a rooftop just to send a message. But truly the only person he saw was Vakey Cole standing there just as she had flown the coop. The murdering glare in his eyes was magnified when he found out he was a CIPHER, a supernatural being able to see a forthcoming death before it happens. Also a hunter of sorts, imbued with magic.
- There was no turning back. He sought out for revenge for he had once seeing the impending vision of his brother's doom but he couldn't stop it. He got what he wanted. Just as he fired two arrows in her chest. With her last dying breath, Ashley told Vakey that she was pregnant for him which was the reason why she came back with an overwhelming feeling of jealousy for leaving her behind. Then Vakey heard the dying heartbeat of his unborn child fade away.... It was heartbreaking.
- The latter was revealed by Winston Cross to Vakey, Dylan's sworn enemy, as Kevin being the reason he had ran screaming from the town. Vakey was furious and tried to kill Kevin but Dylan intervened. This sparked a feud between them. But at some point Vakey got angry, bitter, and rageful. And decided to take it out on Kevin's girlfriend Kimberly Blake, 16, charming and extremely beautiful teen with a queen bee persona. She was the captain of the cheer leading group in New Summer High school.
- Vakey did to her the same thing that was done to her unborn child but he didn't know what she was...what she truly was. A DARK ONE.
- Dylan was genuine, truly cared about Melissa, both remarkably strong and remarkably smart. Despite being childhood friends, had a crush on her ever since 4th grade and waited for the right time to tell her. Which he later did at Prom night.
- It was so surreal, witnessing as Kevin stabbed the shuriken dagger into Dylan's chest which caused him to roar in pain. Kevin seemed pleased as Dylan gasps in pain and falls to his knees. However, Melissa was standing behind and watched this all happen while covering her mouth with her hands. She rushed over to Dylan and held him in her arms.
- "Oh my God! Oh my God. No, no, no! Help me please! Somebody help me please."
- Right now, just as the memory fades away from her thoughts, a drop of tear rolled down Melissa's cheek. She had always blamed herself for what happened. That maybe she could have done more to stop it. But there was no guarantee. She had never forgiven herself and needed to let go. Melissa is still on the phone with Bailey who is on the road speaking.
- "We've been through this Melissa." Bailey was considerate, pleading in her voice. "The whole idea of this getaway plan was to try and forget..."
- "I can't just forget!," retorted Melissa. Almost like she had hit a nerve. She drops the lipstick and rubs her forehead and became solemn. "It doesn't work like that. Every beautiful moment that we've ever had." Her voice was breaking as she sobbed silently.
