Chapter 63 Provocation: Leo POV

  • I ran out to the front and was met with battles everywhere. This was different from the previous attacks. There were ferals, but the way they attacked was much more organized. The more agile shifters were out front and attacking as the vanguard, while larger creatures defended them. Amidst this, I saw glints of metal in the treeline. Obviously where the bullets had originated from. I let out a furious growl, the image of Cyrus' hand coming to mind. The tattered edges of skin and muscle helping to dye his skin red. I shifted; my clothes tearing apart. As I ran towards the treeline, a flash of silver shot past me. The leaves shifted slightly before there was a loud rip, then a scream filled with agony. As I broke through the greenery, I saw Queen tearing through this section of shooters. He no longer looked like the delicate featured, mischievous male that I'd spoken to yesterday. His eyes glowed a deep red while his nails had extended to black, sharp talons. As he bit into the throat of another gunner, I saw that his double fangs were extended and his teeth had become razor-sharp knives. He tore through the attackers like a hot knife through butter. Our eyes met, and I bowed towards him. He winked in return and returned to his carnage.
  • I ran to the next group and met up with Ari, Josh, and a few other warriors. Obviously the sound of guns and the strong, sharp scent of gunpowder drawing their attention. As we tore through them, Ari told me one other group was taking another section of shooters. A bullet whizzed past my head and drilled into the tree behind me. Josh ripped their arm off mid-shot, which caused them to miss. The guy didn't last as Josh's light brown wolf crushed his skull between his fangs. I nod towards him in thanks and started to rejoin the fray when a sickeningly sweet scent edged towards my senses. My wolf growled at the smell instinctively. I turned towards the tree, taking a deep whiff before snorting. Wolf's bane. Were all of the bullets laced with wolf's bane? I began checking each weapon for the faint, sick, sweetness underneath the sharp metallic scent. All of them had it.
  • After alerting the pack through the link, Ari looked towards me in surprise as Josh sniffed at one of the discarded weapons. Our speed increased as the urge to clear out these armed killers intensified. They were interwoven throughout the treeline strategically, but they weren't t made for close-quarters combat. As we were finishing one of the last groups, I felt a quick, sharp pain in my ribs. Cyrus! I sprinted from the treeline to see that two feral tiger shifters had broken through the line of defense and were trying to breach the house. Cyrus stood between them, holding them off. He was slightly hunched over as he coughed up blood. The other warriors tried to finalize some of the battles in the line of defense that had been created. The goal was to reach Cyrus, but the organized ferals fought without any regard for their life proving to be formidable enemies. One of the tigers lunged towards Cy. He met them in mid-air, ripping half of the tiger's face away before they landed in a ball on the ground. The other tiger tried to take advantage of the situation and rush the door. I pushed myself harder. Fuck! I was too far! I need to be faster!
