Chapter 8

  • Damien
  • I have had Victoria help me prepare some breakfast for Clara because I sincerely have no idea where to begin from. I lay it out on the small table in the kitchen and wait for her to come down the stairs.
  • She should be done washing up by now. Could she have got lost on her way down stairs? I know there are many rooms and corridors on the way from my room but she should be able to find her way down stairs. I wonder if I should go and get her.
  • "Do you think she will be able to find her way down here?" Victoria asks me while clearing the kitchen counter.
  • "I hope so," I reply and she rolls her eyes.
  • "Maybe you should go and check on her," she suggests.
  • "I was thinking the same thing, but let her be. There is no better way of getting used to a place other than getting lost," I say.
  • "You are such a cold ass lover. I pity her," she say with a smirk.
  • "She hasn't complained yet. I think I am doing a good job so far," I tell her and she laughs.
  • "You should know that she has been with you for only hours now, so she can't judge your personality by your actions yet," she says.
  • "She will get used to me in the long run," I say.
  • "Anyway, how long do you plan on keeping her here?" she inquires from me. I also hadn't thought about that.
  • "I don't know. She can stay here for as long as she wants," I reply.
  • "Are you seriously going to keep her here without checking on her family? You don't even know what they are like. You know very well how Fabian hates us that much and she is from his pack," she says.
  • "I don't think that bastard even has the time to spare looking for members missing from his pack," I tell her and she shakes her head.
  • "You should know I wish you all the best for your relationship with her, but I don't want any trouble from Fabian," she says.
  • "Don't worry about that. Everything will fine, " I wave her off. I don't think Fabian is that dumb to cause a chaos at my place.
  • Clara finally walks down the stairs in a black dress that hugs her curves very well. I notice Victoria's smile when she sees her looking so good in her dress.
  • "Hi, dear. How are you feeling?" Victoria dashes to her with a big smile on her face before I make my move.
  • "Am feeling great," Clara replies with a reflected grin.
  • "That's good. Look, I made you breakfast," she says and leads her to the table where I have laid out her breakfast.
  • "It looks delicious. Thank you," Clara tells her and sits down on one of the chairs. I stand quietly beside the kitchen counter and watch with amusement as Victoria does her best to impress Clara.
  • Clara looks up at me and gives me a small smile before she starts eating. She must have really been hungry. Victoria excuses herself and walks away.
  • "I like your choice of outfit," I tell her.
  • "Thanks. I shouldn't have left my clothes behind. I don't want to burden your family," she says.
  • "Burden my family? They are more than happy to help you with anything if you need it," I tell her and she smiles.
  • "But if you feel uncomfortable, maybe we should go and get your things from your home if you want," I offer though I don't have any intentions of letting her go back to that crude place under Fabian's rule.
  • "Okay," she says and looks back at her food. I can suddenly sense her sadness. Maybe she doesn't want to go back.
  • "But if you don't want to, we can get you knew ones," I say.
  • "It's okay. I will go get my things. My father will start looking for me if he realizes that I didn't sleep at home. Emily must have already noticed that I am missing from home.
  • "Do you want to go back now?" I ask her, and hope she doesn't want to go soon.
  • "I don't know. I still want to be here and spend time with you and your family. But we can go now if you want to," she replies.
  • "Okay. Almost everyone is resting right now, but I can give you a tour around the place. What do you think?" I say.
  • "Sure. I would love that," she replies and her eyes light up in excitement.
  • Outside the house, Clara walks beside me. The sun is not so bright I don't have to worry about getting roasted. Some vampires can't manage to walk under the sun. It takes a lot of time to have the ability to walk during the day.
  • Most of the vampire in the house sleep entirely through out the day. Only a few like Victoria, Raul and Luther can walk under the sun. It's just that most of them are having hangover after all the drinking they did yesterday. Others can only walk during the day when it is cloudy or during the winter season.
  • Clara looks amused by the place. She has something to say about everything. Even the things I have never paid attention to seem to have caught her attention. She seems to be paying attention to every detail of the house.
  • "How many vampires live in this house?" she asks me out of the blue. Her questions catches me off guard but I still answer it.
  • "Thirty nine," I reply.
  • "Including you or..?"
  • "Including me."
  • "Do you know all their names?"
  • "Yes."
  • "Whoa! You must be very keen on your family. You know, if I can be turned into a vampire, we could become forty in number," she says and raises an eyebrow at me.
  • "You should just forget about it," I tell her, and she laughs.
  • "Do you normally get new vampires joining you or you have all been together from the very beginning?" she continues to ask me.
  • "We usually receive new members, but we haven't received someone for years now," I reply and she nods.
  • "You must be the friendliest vampire family," she says, almost to herself.
  • "Why would you say that?"
  • "Because you taken good care of me even after knowing that I am a werewolf," she says and looks away towards the woods surrounding the house.
  • Wait! Something is wrong. I can sense it. Even Clara seems to have sensed something is wrong. I know that smell.
  • The Caitiff's!
  • They are all clad in black as they appear out of the woods. Five of them! Clara's eyes go wide. This is trouble. I hold her hand and give her a reassuring squeeze. She doesn't say anything. I stand in front of her like a shield from these dangerous vampires.
  • These Caitiffs are rogue vampires who do not belong to Clan's. The don't have any power controlling them. They live on there own, unlike most vampires. What on earth are they doing here!
  • They walk towards us and stop right infront of me. I notice Kieran stretch his neck to look at Clara who is standing behind me.
  • "Long time no see, sir Damien," Kieran says with an evil smirk.
  • "What do you want from me, Kieran?" I ask. I don't want to waste time doing the introductory. I want them out of my property as fast as they came.
  • "Relax, Damien. We are not here to cause any trouble. Something unusual just caught my attention," Kieran says with his eyes fixed on Clara.
  • "Are you going to introduce her to us?" he asks.
  • "No, I don't think I have to," I reply with mere coldness in my voice, but they don't seem to be affected at all.
  • "Alright. It's your choice. I was just wondering why you would keep Fabian's daughter at your place after all that shit he did to you," he says.
  • What did he just say? Clara is Fabian's daughter? That beast's daughter is my partner? Is fate playing games with me right now? I turn to look at Clara who looks equally as shocked as I am. This can't be happening! She doesn't look a single thing like that bastard.
  • "Have you two reconciled? Is the girl some kind of peace offering?" he asks.
  • "I will kick you out of here if you don't watch what you are saying!" I warn him, and he shrugs his shoulders.
  • "Okay. I was just curious, you know. I have never seen any werewolves in your territory."
  • "If you don't have anything important to tell me, just get out of here," I tell them.
  • In a split second, Luther, Victoria, and Raul are standing behind me. They must have sensed the presence of these Caitiffs.
  • "Kieran, what the hell are you doing here?" Raul inquires. I think he has already got over his hungover.
  • "You guys also accepted to harbour the daughter of your enemy? Is there something I am missing out on here?" Kieran says and then claps his hands dramatically.
  • "Clara is my life partner and the rest of the details don't concern you," I tell him and he laughs.
  • "It's okay. I was just being concerned. Does Fabian know that you have his daughter? I hope he doesn't come causing a scene. You know vampires should look out for their fellow vampires," he says with a smirk and dashes off with his fellows before we can process what he just said.
