Chapter 15 The Illusion of Being a Father

  • Dom squatted down beside Kenneth. Even though he had mentally prepared himself beforehand, he still couldn’t help staring in wonder at the boy’s sleeping face.
  • The child in the photo was two-dimensional, and one could just say that his features and vibe were similar to James'.
  • But right at that moment, when Dom looked at the boy’s face, he could barely describe the shock he felt.
  • This definitely is a descendant of the Ludlow Family!
  • The children were exactly like the twin Ludlows, and Dom was very sure that it was the protection and guidance from the heavens.
  • While Dom was still absorbed in his thoughts, Kenneth’s eyes opened right in front of him.
  • Faced with the dark eyes, Dom was surprised. “You...”
  • Kenneth blinked and sat up, expressionless. He asked in a murmur, “Are you here to see me, sir?”
  • Dom hastily nodded. “Yes! Yes, I am!”
  • Kenneth looked at him from head to toe, then turned to look at the principal and the teacher at the door. He frowned, then he got down from his bed. “I knew you’d come. I’ve been waiting for you.”
  • With that, he swiftly put on his shoes, then shook Angela’s arm, whispering something in her ear.
  • Soon, Angela opened her eyes as well.
  • The girl was obviously sleeping before as she rubbed her blurry eyes. She pouted as she glanced at Dom warily, then mumbled, “Is it him?”
  • Kenneth shook his head. “I don’t know. Let’s go out first.”
  • Seeing the two hold hands as they walked out, Dom followed with a quizzical expression on his face.
  • Can this little guy predict the future? Or does he know me? Why did he know that I was coming?
  • After getting out of the classroom, Dom hastily asked Kenneth with a smile. “Little guy, we don’t know each other, do we? How did you know that I’m here for you?”
  • Kenneth held Angela’s hand tighter. “You’re not my daddy. I’ll tell you when I see my daddy.”
  • “Um...” Dom was at a loss for words. “You know that we’re here to help look for your daddy?”
  • Kenneth didn’t confirm or deny anything. “I’m not answering any questions. Take me to our daddy.”
  • “Okay, okay!”
  • Dom was speechless.
  • This little guy is so wary… As if he really knows why we’re here.
  • He’s so careful and clever, it doesn’t look like he’s related to that bumbling Young Master Jonathan… But he does feel very much like Young Master James.
  • In the principal’s office, James looked through Kenneth’s and Angela’s files, and when he saw the blank space under the words ‘father’s name’, he narrowed his dark eyes.
  • No father, as expected.
  • The man’s gaze moved up and fell upon the words ‘mother’s name’, where Camellia Burns was written.
  • Camellia Burns? This name… sounds familiar.
  • “Daddy? Are you our daddy?”
  • Suddenly, a childish and excited voice rang out in his ears.
  • James was stunned and immediately felt warmth and gentleness invade his heart. He turned around, and a little bundle immediately ran into his arms. “Daddy! You’re horrible! You left Ken and Angie behind!”
  • As he felt the soft bundle in his arms, he was frozen in place. He frowned and looked away, only to be met with another pair of watery eyes.
  • When their gazes met, Angela couldn’t help but let tears fall from her eyes. She looked extremely pitiful as she said, “You’re my daddy! I dreamed about you before!”
  • Seeing the lovely child, James had his usually aloof expression replaced with gentleness. “You’re Angie?”
  • Even though he had seen the photos, he was still shocked when he saw them in the flesh. It should have been their first time seeing each other, but he felt as if they had known each other a long time ago!
  • Is this what you call a blood relation?
  • She was his little niece, and he was her uncle, but he felt as if he himself had become a father.
