Chapter 3

  • At first, the manager was standing frowning, trying to understand the situation, but after seeing my room's condition, he realized something and nodded before leaving.
  • I wouldn't say I like it, how can I lose my control over me, it never happened before; my angel was making me crazy.
  • After we arrived, I directly went to my office to address the issue.
  • In some days, everything settled, I gave my angel's photo to Andrew and asked him to get it framed.
  • Jane's POV
  • Today is Amelia's engagement banquet, she is not happy with this engagement, but our Dad never cared for his family's happiness.
  • I heard that this engagement is just a business arrangement, my brother-in-law gets the biggest profit, and after him, the biggest profit maker is my Dad.
  • It is about some big projects that they have collaborated on.
  • I don't want to attend this banquet, but my Dad's threat is something I cannot ignore, so without my wish, also, I have to attend this ceremony.
  • Amelia had never seen her would-be fiancé; neither was she interested. We leave our hotel and head to the banquet, organized in a five-star hotel on the fifth floor.
  • After we reached here, I saw many reporters. They wanted to interview Amelia; it seems like the people whom Amelia is getting engaged with are quite influential; reporters are dying to talk to his would-be fiancé.
  • I made up my mind that I will keep a low profile; I just want to get out of here as soon as possible. But my Dad always has a different plan than me.
  • After entering the banquet hall, I left my Dad and sister's side, got a corner seat, and settled myself.
  • I still feel like I just want to hug my mother's photo and sleep, maybe I can see her in my dreams.
  • As I was in my thoughts my Dad waved me to follow him, Me, my sister and Dad were standing at the stage, my Dad was holding the mic, and he announced, "Thank you, everyone, for pulling out your precious time, and attending my daughter's engagement."
  • "I would like to introduce my two lovely princesses," He indicated to Amelia and said, "This is my first daughter, Amelia Gilbert." Then he turned towards me and said, "This is my sweet little younger daughter, Jane Gilbert."
  • Soon Andrew brought the frame with my angel's photo; I kept it on my working table, I had already ordered him to investigate her name and background.
  • But he didn't have any luck, all the bookings in the hotel were by her brother's name, and apart from that nothing came out.
  • I like seeing her smiling face, every morning when I come to the office I always wish her saying, "Good morning my angel".
  • Three years later
  • Author's POV
  • Jane was sitting in her bedroom, holding her mother's photo frame tightly, and her tears kept rolling down, she remembered every word her mother said before her death.
  • She still can't believe that her father could do such things with his own wife.
  • When Jane's mother married her father, he already had a daughter of three years; Her father, Anthony Gilbert, never treated his family like family.
  • He just treated everyone as a chess piece to grow his business.
  • Jane doesn't know what she needs to do after her Mum's death; she felt it was only darkness around her without her Mum.
  • Her room's door opened, and her elder sister came in and sat beside her; they were stepsisters and didn't have a good relationship, but today's expressions on Amelia's face were different.
  • She hugged crying Jane and let her cry in her arms for some time.
  • When Amelia saw that Jane did not stop crying, she said, "Are you planning to attend my engagement banquet with your puffy eyes?"
  • Jane never understood Amelia's behavior towards her, she was always cold to her, but there were many times, she protected her, Jane doesn't know it was intentional or coincidently.
  • Hearing what Amelia said, Jane wiped her tears and tried to calm herself down.
  • She sat straight and looked in Amelia's eyes blankly, Amelia looked at her, and said, "are you done with your packing, we are flying to Chicago tonight."
  • Today was her mother's funeral, but her Dad had arranged Amelia's engagement very next day with some billionaire from Chicago, Jane had no mood to attend this banquet, but her Dad threatened her, that if she, as the younger daughter of Gilberts don't attend this banquet, he will not let her see her mother's grave.
  • Amelia packed Jane's luggage; Jane was sitting on her bed, motionlessly. Her mother's words were still lingering in her head when she was in Goa three years back for vacation.
  • On one of her calls, she said, "June, baby you have to be strong, Mum cannot be with you forever" at that time June scolded her for saying these words and started crying. Her Mum coaxed her with sweet words.
  • Jane never thought that her Mum would actually leave her all alone in this cruel world.
  • I'm not too fond of his sugar-coated words; I still managed to force a small smile and walk down from the stage.
  • Marco's POV
  • I was getting engaged to Anthony Gilbert's first daughter today; this marriage is the biggest deal of my life, the profit associated with this deal will lead me as the second richest man in the world.
  • This business marriage will take me closer to my dreams; it can be said that it is a kind of short cut. For me, what matters is the growth of my business, until I can reach my goal, nothing is right or wrong.
