Chapter 6 Wedding kiss

  • Elaine's POV
  • Everyone clapped their hands in joy when Father announced that we finally became a husband and wife. While I pretended to smile in their presence.
  • “In the sight of God and these witnesses, I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may now kiss!” the priest said with a smile on his face.
  • Wait what?!
  • When everyone heard what the priest said, they cheered and began chanting loudly, "Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!"
  • No way, I'm not kissing this man! Over my dead body, of course. When Duke suddenly pulled me towards him, I protested violently and tried to step away from him. He removed my veil in my face while tightly gripping my waist with one hand.
  • Before I could protest, he kissed me on the lips in front of everyone, causing them to gasp and shout in delight.
  • The clamor of the people inside the chapel was silenced as our lips touched. As though everyone had come to a halt for a few seconds. My body feels a tingling feeling that puzzles me as to what it signifies, and my heart begins to beat erratically once more.
  • He proceeded to kiss my lips, oblivious to what I desired or the fact that the folks in front of us were observing. He immediately put his tongue inside my mouth, causing me to groan slightly, which shocked me and brought me back to my senses.
  • I immediately push him away from me and stare him down in rage. He simply smiled and pretended not to notice my rage.
  • "Damn you," I muttered angrily to him.
  • When the wedding was over, everyone began congratulating us on our marriage. And all I could do was pretend to be a happy bride, but deep down I wasn't and just wanted to cry in the corner.
  • While everyone was congratulating us on our marriage, Duke was clutching my waist with one hand, as if he was holding me hostage in case I escaped. How could I possibly flee since I am already married to him? And if I flee, my family would be humiliated, something I don't want to happen to them.
  • " Dear congratulations to your marriage and welcome to our Family " a beautiful couple had congratulated us with sincere smiles on their faces.
  • At first I didn't recognize them because they are not familiar to me at all and I just smiled at them before I replied.
  • "Thank you, Mother and Father," Duke said first, thanking the two lovely couples who had congratulated us.
  • My eyes widened with astonishment as I realized it was his parents who had come to congratulate us. I mean, that's not the first time I've met them, but it was a long time ago when Davina was engaged to him. That caused me to forget how they appeared to me.
  • I quickly concealed my surprise and smiled at his parents, saying, "Thank you, Mother-in-law and Father-in-law," and thanking them for congratulating us.
  • " Oh please just call us Mother and Father, putting in-law is so long " Mother suggested, still smiling to me.
  • I just nodded at her as a reply " okay mother " I awkwardly agreed calling her mother.
  • " Dear, I am sorry for this unexpected marriage with our son, but please try understanding this son of ours, even if he appears cold, he is truly a compassionate guy," Mother said in my ear while holding me.
  • Before I could respond, she pulled away from me, and without waiting for my response, she and her husband said their goodbyes and walked away from us. That confused me because how could I understand this man? I too clearly didn't understand what she said. I just ignored what my mother-in-law had said to me and just concluded it as nonsense.
  • After then, my parents, like everyone else, congratulated us and then went to head to the hotel where we would continue the celebrations. While we watched everyone left the church, Duke spoke which surprised me.
  • " What did she tell you?" He whispered,
  • I didn't look at him and simply kept looking ahead. "Who do you mean?" I questioned back.
  • "My mother mentioned something to you, what was it?" he clarified his question.
  • Oh so he did notice about what his Mother do, but sorry mister I won't tell you anything because it was just nonsense I mean no offense but that's what I think.
  • " It was nothing, she just welcomed me again into joining the family," I replied, lying to him.
  • "Really?" he said again, his voice doubtful of what I stated.
  • I simply rolled my eyes at him. "Yes, well, I don't really care if you believe me or not, doubt all you want, I don't care," I sarcastically said. "Are we going to stay here in the church standing or are we going to leave?" I questioned, finally looking at his face.
  • When I didn't answer his question truly, he drew a big breath in irritation, which made me smile discreetly, since he deserved it.
  • " Fine, we will leave now," he said to me.
  • We proceeded down the steps towards a black vehicle that was waiting for us in front of the church, and someone was waiting for us who unlocked the backseat door. Duke held my arm as we went because my wedding is a bit hefty and difficult to walk without assistance.
  • " Careful, " he warned as we walked slowly.
  • I glanced at him, annoyed. "I know, I'm not an idiot!" I exclaimed angrily.
  • He didn't respond, instead continuing to assist me with the final step of the stairs. When we were finally down, Duke looked at the man who had been patiently waiting for us.
  • "James we are going straight to the hotel" he instructed the man named James who just nodded as a reply to Duke.
  • After that, we both went inside the car, and I was grateful that the car was so chilly because it was so hot outside that my face was sweating. For the time being, I tried to wipe it with my hand.
  • "Here, use my handkerchief" Duke offered his own handkerchief to me.
  • And I stared at the black costly handkerchief he provided, and without hesitation, I snatched it up and cleaned my sweating forehead with it.
  • " Thank you," I said, grateful for the handkerchief he lent me.
  • He just nodded as a reply and turned his attention to the driver and ordered to start driving already.
  • After that, the car began right away, and I just relaxed against the car seat, looking out the window, thinking about something.I guess this marriage isn't as bad as I thought. Maybe this marriage will work somehow? Let's see.
