Chapter 16

  • It had sounded like a good idea at the time Emma mused as she drove to the care taker’s home. The twenty or so times she’d rehearsed it to herself before she left the cottage seemed feasible too. Now only a few minutes away from having to do it, well, it wasn’t feeling like a good plan.
  • She didn’t have a choice though and she knew it. Her finances hadn’t been a topic she has discussed with Bryce in any great detail so he wasn’t aware of the fact that they were dwindling with her car payment, insurance and credit card bills but she’d soon have to leave. To go where she didn’t know or really care, if she wasn’t at the cottage life didn’t hold much for her.
  • They hadn’t been able to come up with any ideas that might resolve what had happened to him. She alone had spent countless hours on the computer trying to find some sort of information on the man that had disappeared thirty-eight years ago—there had been nothing. The only explanation she had for that was his family had hid it from the media. Not an easy task, but a few times she’d managed the very same thing with families of status having to gloss over one relative or another.
