Chapter 6

• That question had always bugged him for years , centuries even, " do you have a mate?"
• At a point in his life he wanted to kill anyone who asked him that question. After people around him noticed the question triggered him , they stopped asking him. In Fact they never invited him to the annual mate event .
• Even though he was the oldest and most respected, he was exempted from all mate events. He felt really sore that after centuries he couldn't find his mate.
• Was it his failure? Or just fate? Or did he do something so bad in his past life that he didn't deserve a mate?. He had asked every deity that came after him, even those that were alive before him, he asked before they passed on, they all said his mate was on the way, that ye had a destined mate. Then why was it taking so long?
• And now even when powerful vampires dare not ask about his mate this measly human dares to ask about his mate!? If only he knew he just signed his death contract. He was going to keep him for blood before but now , he would suck him dry at once. He didn't deserve to live.
• At the thought of having enough food he burst out laughing. Rodrigo knew his friend Alaric was full of wonders and surprises but he could still predict some of his actions .
• He knew the Doctor signed his life away when he asked about Alaric's mate. No one in the vampire world would dare ask that question but the doctor did so carelessly.
• Deep down he wished Alaric would find his mate, even though he hadn't found his but he knew he still had a chance but things weren't looking that way for Alaric.
• He knew he probably laughed because he was thinking of how to kill him but then he would keep watching.
• 'Why was he laughing, is it because he asked about his mate?, Or maybe his mate is more dangerous than him or she was around?'. At this point Dr Sam lost all confidence in him.
• "May I ask what's funny Mr Alaric?"
• "You're just a very funny man Dr Sam. Many people try to be cautious in the face of death , but you, you're different. You walk like it's your compound. But that's fine, you should be free and completely say your kind before dying so you don't have any regrets. And to answer the question that certified your death, no Dr Sam, I do not have a mate."
• ' Certified his death? What does that mean? Does that mean he had a chance at living before and he just blew it ? Just because he asked about his mate? Curiosity does kill the cat. But then he should satisfy his curiosity if he's going to die because of it. It's unfortunate he's going to take it all to his grave though.'
• "Well since I asked a question that would get me killed , I might as well ask all the questions on my mind since I would die anyway. Don't you think Mr Alaric?"
• 'How dare he , this lowly human , think he could question me? I'm the greatest vampire and this measly peasant dares to cross me!?' Alaric took a deep breath and decided to entertain Dr Sam as a silent approval to his last prayer.
• "Yes, you may ask your questions, consider it as me fulfilling your last prayer"
• "How many vampires are in the world?"
• " As many as humans are"
• " Is it true you only feed on blood?"
• " That I cannot answer as it's private to the world of vampires"
• " Oh.. okay then. Why don't you have a mate and are other vampires mate-less like you?"
• 'How dare he! Mate-less? Him?. He might as well teach him to watch his mouth. Least if news gets outside that he left a mere human who questioned his mate state, he might be taken for a joke'.
• " Give me your hand" Alaric said with a devilish smile. At this point Rodrigo knew the torture had started. Dr Sam brought it upon himself anyway.
• "Sure" Dr Sam stretched out his hand without suspicion . Alaric took his hand, traced slowly to his middle finger and broke it off completely.
• Dr Sam shouted in pain , slipped off the chair , went on his knees, holding his bleeding finger, crying profusely in pain.
• "I think that should teach you to mind your mouth a little. Now you can resume your questions" Alaric said with a mischievous smile plotting in his mind which part of Dr Sam's body he would break next.
• " I don't have any more questions please," Dr Sam said in a rushed breath ." Why don't you just kill me now, why stress yourself?"
• " Ohh but I love stress. I would kill you slowly but briefly. But first we have to make sure you aren't eating any food right... " Alaric motioned over to Rodrigo to feed off Dr Sam's broken finger. He knew it had been a while he fed.
• Rodrigo took Dr Sam's finger and began drinking the following blood. He stopped just in time before Dr Sam fainted. He stood up feeling replenished and stronger. Fresh blood is indeed the strongest.
• "Please stop. Okay, I ... still... have.. a few... questions" Dr Sam said after a bit of struggle.
• "Good, now we're talking. Ask away dearest doctor"
• " What can kill vampires? " There was a very silent tension present in the room immediately when Dr Sam asked that question.
• 'What can kill vampires?Is he trying to kill us?' A sudden thought dawned on Alaric. He wasn't alone! The only reason Dr Sam is asking these questions is because he has a recorder on him somewhere on his body!'
• "Search him," Alaric said to Rodrigo . Rodrigo had also realized what was going on.
• 'If he really is recording, who is he recording to? Why? . Humans are so complicated.'
• Rodrigo searched everywhere on his body but found nothing. He looked at Alaric and shaked his head.
• "Where are you keeping it, tell me?"
• "Why should I, if I tell you you would destroy it and then there would be no evidence".
• "So you're using your life to get evidence, isn't that a bit cruel even to you?"
• "Doesn't matter actually, as long as you vampires are exposed to the world . You shall be eradicated."
• "Who's your spy? Tell me , which vampire works for you?"
• Dr Sam laughed despite the pain he was feeling, "If I tell you , wouldn't that jeopardize a lot uhm" Dr Sam knew that no matter what he had to protect himself. Yes he did have a vampire spy that worked for him but what Alaric and this other guy don't realize is , although the security camera is auto saved, there's no one who knows where it saves to. Not even his spy. If Alaric realizes that , he won't have leverage anymore .
• 'They can't easily find my camera because I used a contact lens camera.'
• Unknown to Dr Sam, Alaric already realized he's using a contact lens , so he decided to lure him to the sunlight, so if the light reflected on his face, he would catch a reflection of his eyes.
• "You're right , it would actually jeopardize a lot for you" Alaric began to move towards Dr Sam in a slow but domineering manner , this made Dr Sam keep on moving back till he entered the rays of light coming from the window.
• "Aren't you vampires allergic to sunlight?" Dr Sam said in fear.
• His statement made Alaric realize something, the vampire who was betraying them is a low level Vampire who would probably be a few decades old . Vampires indeed had special powers that grew with age. A vampire who is about three centuries old would be able to walk in sunlight with minimum adverse effect . With decades , he would be able to blend as a human walking comfortably in sunlight, but a vampire who's a few decades old wouldn't be able to withstand the heat coming from sunlight talkless walking in sunlight.
• He would make a list of all vampires present around him who were a few decades old. But before then..
• Alaric saw a flash of reflection from Dr Sam's eyes which confirmed his suspicions. He was indeed using a contact lens camera.
• He just needed to confirm if there was a receiver on the other end.
• " We are , in fact very much, but you see , I wasn't planning on entering the sunlight. I only needed to confirm which of your eyes is fake." Alaric gave a dark smile before he ripped the contact lens off Dr Sam's right eyeball.
• Dr Sam was in complete fear as he knew there was no way back.
• " If my suspicion is right, you were only trying to buy time because it doesn't seem like this has a receiver. I'm sure you didn't tell anyone about the location of this camera because you wanted all credit for yourself. Not that it's a bad thing because this is actually a benefit to me."
• " Now I'm right, your curiosity made you investigate me , then you planted spies around me ,in which case you should know ,they would soon follow you. Then after .......... You died , taking all your discoveries to the underwear".
• " No please ,don't kill me......."
• Alaric didn't give Dr Sam enough time to plead as he rushed forward at full speed and bit Dr Sam's neck and completely drained his blood.
