• It was as if time stopped moving as the air was like it was sucked from the room. The air became thicker as an uncomfortable silence engulfed us. No one was speaking and I wondered if a spell has been cast on Kathy in particular. Everyone seemed speechless. I expected her to be shouting and pulling my hair now but she's just standing, probably staring at me. Anyway, no one plans a murder out loud. She's probably thinking of the fastest way to get rid of me.
• Dave's silence was more than enough for me to realize the truth. He confirmed what Kathie said. His silence was also a cue for me to go.
