Chapter 7 The Successor

  • “I’ve moved out. I rented a unit outside, come stay with me.” Bai An Xiang said.
  • Cheng Yuan was shocked.
  • If it were months ago, Bai An Xiang would not hesitate to leave him, but now… Knowing that she had a fall out with her mother and ended up moving out of her home, Cheng Yuan was deeply touched by her support for him and his mother.
  • Additionally, she even invited Cheng Yuan to stay with her at the place she rented. In other words, she might have already accepted her destiny to stay married to Cheng Yuan.
  • How could Cheng Yuan not be moved?
  • “Don’t you have something to say too?” Bai An Xiang broke the silence as Cheng Yuan did not say anything.
  • Once again, Cheng Yuan smiled, “Oh, I forgot.”
  • “Right.”
  • Cheng Yuan thought this was actually not a bad idea.
  • He was never concerned by the size of the house he lived in, all he cared about was the people he lived with.
  • Since that was the case, he decided to wait for Bai An Xiang’s birthday before breaking the news to her as a surprise. After all, it was only a few days away.
  • Bai An Xiang rented a place in a heavily run down building. It was the type of red brick building that existed 2000 years ago and appeared to be in an extremely shabby condition.
  • When they entered the house, he was relieved to learn that the place was relatively clean. It was 60 square meters big with two bedrooms.
  • Bai An Xiang pointed to one of the bedrooms, “You’re staying here.”
  • She then entered the other room.
  • Cheng Yuan let out a sigh, in the end, nothing had changed.
  • However, he was not in a hurry, since Bai An Xiang had slowly changed her perception for him, the day when they sleep in the same bed should not be too far away.
  • “Dear…” Suddenly, Bai An Xiang’s voice arose from the other room.
  • Cheng Yuan was thrilled, sure enough… it surely isn’t far away… Bai An Xiang never addressed him as such before.
  • Cheng Yuan’s jumped out of his bed in excitement. Just as he was about to barge into Bai An Xiang’s room, he heard Mu Ru Zhen’s voice coming from her room, “Hey darling, how are you doing today?”
  • Cheng Yuan was left speechless.
  • Bai An Xiang turned out to be video calling Mu Ru Zhen.
  • Cheng Yuan eavesdropped for a while and was relieved to know that Mu Ru Zhen did not ruin the surprise. At the same time he felt a hint of jealousy.
  • When will I be able to be as close as Mu Ru Zhen to her?
  • For the second time, he let out a sigh. After all, it seemed like the day when they were able to sleep in the same bed was not coming anytime soon anyway.
  • When he woke up on the second day, Bai An Xiang had already gone to work. Cheng Yuan washed up briefly and left for the hospital.
  • For the first time in two days, Cheng Yuan finally received some good news.
  • When he arrived at the ward, he found out that his mother had woken up. The doctor informed him that the surgery performed by the dean of hospital was a success.
  • As Cheng Yuan was walking toward his mother’s bed, tears started rolling down her cheeks.
  • “Yuan, it is true.” She said.
  • Cheng Yuan turned his face to the table and found a couple of fruit baskets. Those are high nutritious fruits that were relatively expensive, Cheng Yuan normally would not splurge on those.
  • It was clear who gave the fruit baskets.
  • Looking at mother’s wrinkly face, Cheng Yuan’s heart started to tremble.
  • He had already guessed it earlier. No stranger would spare him 100 million out of the blue, regardless of how rich they were.
  • “In my eyes, you are my only mother.” Cheng Yuan said.
  • His mother shook her head with a smile, tears continued to roll down her cheeks, she said meekly, “Silly boy, to accept your birth mother does not mean abandoning me as a mother, also, you are all grown up now, nobody could force you to accept them, right?
  • “Without experiencing the pain of laboring, one would never understand the challenges to be a mother. Son, go, don’t hurt your birth mother anymore.”
  • Cheng Yuan was left speechless.
  • He left the hospital with mixed feelings.
  • His mother told him the name of his birth mother, she was Li Lan Ying. It was such an unsophisticated name which contradicted with her elegance.
  • Standing outside the presidential suite at Xin Yang Hotel, Cheng Yuan knocked on the door.
  • Li Lan Ying opened the door, she was still dressed in her pyjamas. At the sight of Cheng Yuan, she grabbed his hands out of excitement, “Yuan, mom knew you would come.”
  • Li Lan Ying dragged Cheng Yuan into her room. He could not believe his eyes as he paced around in the luxurious suite, exploring the room.
  • “What a luxurious place,” Cheng Yuan sighed, “after all, you have been living the good life without me anyway.”
  • Li Lan Ying said awkwardly, “Yuan… Are you still mad at me?”
  • Cheng Yuan made himself comfortable on the spongy couch, “If I were to say no, would you believe it?”
  • The room instantly condensed into complete silence.
  • After a while, Li Lan Ying sat next to Cheng Yuan, stared at his scrawny face and frowned, “I’m sorry son, I…”
  • “I understand you have your reasons,” Cheng Yuan interrupted, “I don’t want to listen to them, so I can’t empathize with you. But that’s fine, after all, you are still my birth mother.”
  • Li Lan Ying was left with no words.
  • “I have a condition.” Cheng Yuan said.
  • Li Lan Ying was delighted to hear that, “Just tell me, son.”
  • There was a positive note to having conditions, at least it meant there was room for compromise. Hence, this was pleasing to Li Lan Ying.
  • Cheng Yuan said hesitantly, “I can accept you as my birth mother, but I can’t abandon the woman who raised me. I also do not have plans to leave Xin Yang City right now, even if I change mind my in the future, I will always bring my adoptive mother with me.”
  • Li Lan Ying was astonished to hear this, “That’s all?”
  • “Yeah,” Cheng Yuan nodded, “If you disagree to that, please forget about me.”
  • Li Lan Ying was overjoyed to hear that, she said out of excitement, “Sure thing! How could I say no to that? That means my son is a filial and responsible man, I couldn’t be happier than this.”
  • Following this, Li Lan Ying revealed the entire story, which had been kept secret for decades, to Cheng Yuan.
  • This was when Cheng Yuan finally learned of his father’s name, Cheng Jun Feng. He was one of the wealthiest tycoons in Jing City, a prominent man who had significant impact to the business world.
  • Li Lan Ying passed Cheng Yuan a pile of files, “Since you are not planning to move away from Xin Yang City at the moment, I might as well let you take over my assets in Xin Yang City.”
  • “Assets?” Cheng Yuan was stunned.
  • He thought his birth parents were just some rich people, who could have expected that they were so prominent in the business world.
  • What did that mean?
  • Did that mean he struck the jackpot?
  • “The Jun Feng Group of Companies,” Li Lan Yang said casually.
  • Cheng Yuan was astounded, the Jun Feng Group was one of the top two companies in Xin Yang City. In fact, Yue Liang Wan was a subsidiary of the Jun Feng Group of Companies. No wonder he was offered the house at Yue Liang Wan for free when he flashed the black card previously.
  • From buying a proper suit, to attending the board meeting, to being appointed as the chairman of the board of director, all of these happened within a few hours. From this, it was evident to him that Li Lan Ying was highly capable and influential. As she had to attend to emergency matters in Jing City, she swiftly left after settling Cheng Yuan down.
  • Cheng Yuan was confused throughout the entire process. Sitting by the window wall in the chairman’s office, he was indulged in the vibrant city view right in front of him. He could not calm down even after a while, it felt like everything was a dream.
  • In the past two years, he never had the chance to apply his skills and knowledge, hence he was gradually losing his touch. However, he now had Jun Feng Group as his platform to showcase himself, he clenched his fists in determination, so tightly that his nails almost pierced through the skin of his palms.
  • He was electrified.
  • It seemed like he had full control of all his ideas and dreams from this moment onward.
  • Cheng Yuan was determined to provide for the loves of his life, to let them live a good life.
  • They will no longer take the overly crowded public buses and will no longer ride the electric bike to work in the middle of winter due to financial restrictions.
  • Moreover, they will no longer be worried about falling ill due to financial restrictions!
  • At this moment, the voice of her fine-looking personal assistant brought him back to reality.
  • “Chairman, what can I do for you?”
  • The fine lady was Wang Zi Yan, a personal assistant specially arranged for Cheng Yuan by Li Lan Ying. She was 170 centimeters tall, wearing a pair of black pantyhose on her long, gorgeous legs. She was curvaceous, especially her bust, which was comparable to Mu Ru Zhen’s. She always showed no expression on her pretty face, emitting a hint of arrogance to go with her charms.
