Chapter 7

  • Japheth's POV
  • Most of the boys had left, They didn't want to risk any other chances so they went home. We were only five remaining boys; Henry, Fred, George, Stanley and I.
  • But it wasn't bad after all, we would still manage any way but we needed help from inside the school for that strike to go on.
  • Meaning we needed to be in communication with one or two of the form four girls, to plan all these, for what we want to take place.
  • Yeah, I know we were risking a lot. But I was a risk taker anyway. We all were.
  • The good thing is that we were less which would make us to be less noticeable if in case something went wrong.
  • "What do you guys say we have some fun by pushing the girls to strike?." Fred asked.
  • I looked at him in an amused smiled. Was striking what he referred to as having fun?.
  • "Not a bad idea... But how?." George asked.
  • "Were less now, will it work out?". Henry asked in a worried tone.
  • "Yes it will... We shall have help from inside." Fred answered.
  • That was now what was eating me up inside. How would we get help from inside?.
  • We barely knew the girls...
  • "How will we get help from inside?" Stanley asked.
  • "Don't worry I have a plan.. All we have to do is go closer to the school". Fred explained.
  • "Won't getting close to that school make us get caught easily?". I asked.
  • "No it won't... I actually have a cousin in that school .... She is in form three and she can help us out... Plus we will be at the back of that school where it's surrounded with trees and bushes, no one will see us over there". Fred said.
  • Oh I sincerely had no idea he had a cousin over there.
  • "Are you sure your cousin won't tell on us?." Stanley asked.
  • "No... Actually, she and some other girls will be planning everything about that strike.." He responded confidently as if he was sure of what his cousin and her fellow girls were doing.
  • How comes I was an aware of his plan?. I furrowed my brows as I looked at him.
  • Fred turned and caught me looking at him, he looked back at me as if he had read my thoughts, "Man? Hadn't I promised that I would handle everything?". He asked me while revealing a victorious smile.
  • "Okay Okay you win! But how did you do all these in such a short span of time?". I asked curiously.
  • After a short time of silence, Fred stood close to us and dug into his pocket before he retrieved a small black phone.
  • We all gasped.
  • "Yoh dude? You had a phone in school?." I asked.
  • Why hadn't he ever told me about this?. Now I was feeling more of a member than a leader since I had been left out in a lot of things by my own best friend and right hand man.
  • "Yes... This is how I managed to get a lot of our plans work out". He finally responded.
  • But to think about it, having a phone in school was risking a lot. If he had been caught by the school's representatives or any if the teachers, they would have taken the phone away and given him an expaltion. The least I could do was be thankful.
  • "Thanks Fred, you risked a lot... Not being afraid that someone would see you having a phone in school, just to help me out?" I said. "That takes a lot of courage and determination. You're one true friend".
  • So far, I wouldn't have been successful if it weren't for him and smart ass brains. I was proud of him.
  • He smiled at me, "Don't mention it... So shall we go?". He asked.
  • With no doubts. Now I was confident enough that my final plan would fall through.
  • But that was not the thing that excited me the most.
  • I was anxious and excited to meet that girl.. Who had a strange effect on me.
  • I gave a nod not trusting my mouth to speak at the moment. I cleared my throat a little before opening it to speak, "Yes we shall".
  • ~~~~
  • We were now at the back of the school. Before we came, we had managed to buy something we could all afford to buy and eat at the moment like; milk, bread and a few bananas since we were all hungry.
  • Walking all the way in the middle of the night from our school till here, all that commotion we had caused, truly, we were starving.
  • From where we stood, we could see the main administration block and a few girls running and others walking to and fro.
  • We could also see a few security men and teachers.
  • "Seems like they have tightened their security" I said under my breathe.
  • "Nothing to worry about.. Ruth said that she and the girls know of how they'll deal with them". Fred said confidently as he looked down at the small black phone that was on his hands before tucking it back in his pocket.
  • "Okay I hope she does". I responded as I found myself a comfortable spot under a tree and sat down.
  • "We have nothing to worry about, if your cousin knows all that she has to do... She will just have to signal us when the time comes". George said as he sat next to me and took out his bread.
  • He was right after all, we were here to help them in striking not do everything for them.
  • "We need to rest also!". Henry said as he laid down on the grass a few feet away from me while facing up wards. So, he was laying on his back and his hands tucked behind his head to act like a pillow.
  • Yeah, they were right we had nothing to worry about but to just rest and wait for the right time. At least we had the confirmation that the girls didn't want to do the exams either.
  • As I said, not everyone us a classroom smart person.
  • "Don't worry about that discipline master... He will pose less threat when that time comes". Fred said after he had finished eating.
  • I huffed, what were those girls planning on doing exactly that they'd sort out the man who tried to intimidate me earlier?.
  • What would they do to prevent him from stopping them to strike?. I must admit I was curious in knowing what was going through the minds of the girls only a few blocks away from us.
  • The other three boys were fast asleep so at least Fred and I had some privacy to talk.
  • "What are the girls planning to do to him?". I asked curiously.
  • "I don't know either. That's all that Ruth has told me." Fred replied after a minute of silence.
  • "Okay were only giving them a hand any way not that were organizing the strike with them." I said flatly.
  • "So, if it fails, we leave them... We won't persist any further?". Fred asked.
  • I gave a brief nod.
  • He exhaled sharply, "Okay".
  • "But I have to ask you a question" He admitted finally.
  • "Go ahead and ask".
  • "While at the front of the main gate earlier today.. Remember while we were being confronted by that man?. You somehow managed to control your anger which is seemingly not normal to you and us all ... I know you Japheth, something happened and it stopped you from fighting that man.. What was it?." He asked.
  • I didn't know how to respond to that. It would sound weird. Okay would I tell him I saw a girl who had an effect on me?. Just because my instinct told me it was her, I was still not a hundred percent sure if it was true or not. So I couldn't just tell him what transpired.
  • I remembered that girl by the window. Would it be appropriate if i told him what happened?.
  • Would he believe me? When I told him that that girl had a strange effect on me? And yet i did not know her?.
  • Had he even seen her?.
  • "It was nothing... I just figured out that destroying that man would make me go behind bars which I'm not yet ready in going". I lied.
  • He suspiciously looked at me with a raised brow.
  • He didn't believe me. Damn it!.
  • "Are you sure? You know, the Japheth I know is never afraid of anything no matter what apart from his Father". He commented.
  • Fred really did know me well, huh?. That was my disadvantage.
  • "Well people change, right?". I asked trying not to sound suspicious.
  • "Yeah they do". he flatly answered as he laid down and slowly drifted to sleep.
  • Thank God, he was too tired to be persisted.
  • But I know Fred doesn't easily give up until he gets what he wants. He would stop at nothing to get the answers he needed from me.
