Chapter 3

  • CHAPTER 3
  • "I'm sorry for making you hurry, Miss. My son needed to pee or else he'd pee on himself," the woman exclaimed.
  • A smile crept into her face. "No worries," she replied. She gave way to the mother and son and went back to their table.
  • Along the way, she found the same man coming out of the counter, holding a tray filled with dishes. She stopped for a second and let the man through to which he winked.
  • "Thank you, Miss."
  • She stared at him blankly. She was startled by his sudden action but immediately recovered. It's a good thing that there were no emotions flashing on her face when it happened even though deep within she was excited.
  • She swallowed her salivas when her eyes were caught by those heavy dishes he was carrying. Does that mean she'll also do the same thing if she finally works here? She suddenly had second thoughts whether to continue applying for work or not.
  • When she reached their table, she made sure not to look at three women from earlier. It was embarrassing enough that she was caught eavesdropping.
  • "I have good news," Oddette immediately exclaimed
  • "Good news?" She frowned. It eas only five minutes ago when she left and got herself into trouble and now she has some good news?
  • She sat on her seat and bit her pizza before staring at her friend full of excitement on her face. She motioned to let her speak.
  • "We're hired," she proudly declared. As she took a bite on her pizza. Emmie furrowed her brows, swallowing her food and taking a sip on her iced tea.
  • "I don't get it." She shook her head.
  • "What do you mean hired? Where?" she asked. She's now feeling extremely hungry because of the entire walk they did earlier for job hunting.
  • "Yes, you heard it right. We're hired." She smiled mischievously. It makes her wonder how it was possible when just earlier, she was at the restroom.
  • "We'll start working here tomorrow." Oddette hadn't finished her words when she coughed. That was unexpectedly fast. Her friend helped her from the chokin food and patted her back gently.
  • "Are you okay?" Oddette asked with a concerned voice.
  • How was that possible? The scrape of food continued to roughly itch her throat as she coughed them. When she got better, she grabbed her iced tea and immediately took a sip.
  • Upon recovering, she looked at her friend again with disbelief and confusion written in her face. "How did that happen?" she asked.
  • "When you left to use the washroom, Zoren asked me about your name. He then noticed the envelopes on our table and I ended up telling him everything." Emmie took another sip on her juice.
  • A scowl engulfed her face, annoyed by her best friend's sudden announcement. Why did that man named Zoren ask for her name, anyway?
  • "And guess what?" she pauses.
  • Emmie raised one of her eyebrows. "What?"
  • "Since he hired us, he said we can immediately start tomorrow!" Oddette excitedly added, opposed to her own feelings. Upon looking unhappy, her friend noticed her frowning face. She stopped smiling to herself only to crease her forehead. "What's wrong?"
  • Emmie opened her mouth. "I'm sorry. I was just wondering if I can actually do it," she said, lowering her gaze. She lacked the confidence to do her job, added that she is afraid of failure.
  • "Why? What's wrong? Can you please tell me the reason?" she asked one after the other in a low voice. She can sense that Oddette wasn't upset, instead she's concerned based on her tone.
  • She raised her head and looked into her best friend's eyes. "I was wondering if I can do the task. It seems that getting and serving those orders isn't easy," she replied in a cracked voice.
  • "And who told you, you'll go and take orders and serve?" a baritone voice uttered. Her eyes widened in surprise; she didn't expect the man to suddenly emerge out of nowhere.
