Chapter 4

  • I got up early so I could go "hunt" the Gemini Lycans. I put my suitcase in the rear of the truck before turning to load the motorcycles on the bed of the truck. I pinned the bikes down with a chain before Danielle walked over to me.
  • Did you address Drake in any way? I shook my head in response to her question as she exhaled in relief. I smiled at Chad as he took a file from Drake. I was curious as to Danielle's reaction if she learned that I was one of the dangerous Lycans they were looking for. I closed the door as I entered the passenger side. I waited until Chad got into the car.
  • "Are you ready?" I nodded as Chad questioned. The truth is that I was never going to be prepared to begin looking for my brother, but it was the only way to do it. He's in danger if I find him, but he's in even more danger without me.
  • We traveled into the night before stopping in New Orleans.
  • Why do we have to stop? I questioned as he exited.
  • Chad said as I got out of the car with the magical knife, "He's been here before. If necessary, I would kill Chad to protect my brother.
  • Do you believe they are dangerous, Chad? I softly questioned in an effort to get his opinion.
  • He said, "I don't care, I'm following orders," which made my stomach turn.
  • It matters to me, I firmly asserted. Like I would want a good cause if they commanded me to kill you.
  • Do the Gemini Lycans even exist, thus does it really matter? He glared at me angrily and demanded. He made a U-turn and entered a pub. I inhaled as I followed him inside. I looked around, glad to see my brother absent. The realization that he would be in school in the middle of the day caused me to freeze. My parents taught me, therefore I was excused from school.
  • "Josh is a boy; do you know him, Miss? You resemble a young person I used to know a lot "I turned to face the bartender and questioned. I turned to look and noticed Chad pacing the rear hallway.
  • He is seventeen, right? He nodded, and I inquired. Where is he right now?
  • The bartender informed me that "he moved with his parents to California."
  • I lied, "Nope, I don't think I know him," and then I moved in the same way as Chad. In the back parking lot, I discovered him. He swiftly turned to face me.
  • I nodded as he remarked, "The trail is old.
  • "Where now?" I questioned, my pulse pounding at the idea that he could be unable to find my brother.
  • He walked back inside and said, "We should figure out who used to frequent here and try to find them by name. In the hopes that the bartender wouldn't say anything, I hurried to catch up.
  • You returned? While I grinned, the bartender said.
  • As Chad stood next to me, I smirked and said, "Couldn't stay away."
  • "We're looking for someone who frequented this location but has stopped coming. Do you know anyone that meets that description?" I bit my lip as Chad questioned.
  • The bartender replied, "There's Fred Stevens who lives in Dallas Texas and Josh Rowen who moved to San Diego California," which helped to put me at ease.
  • I grinned and said, "Thank you sir," as Chad left quite abruptly. I watched him get into the car after him.
  • I nodded as he remarked, "So we are closer to Texas, we should head that way."
  • I replied, "Makes sense," with my heart full of hope. While my brother is secure in San Diego, he was planning to search Dallas. Dallas is huge, how are we going to find him? I mutely enquired.
  • As I clutched the knife, he replied, "Don't worry, we'll make it." I glanced at the blade, aware that a single poke may reveal my identity. Once we locate my brother, it might also take his life. I tried a million different things to save my brother, but they were all unsuccessful, and I ended up killing Chad, who appeared to be a soldier following blindly. "One penny for your opinions?"
  • I remarked, "You'd need more than a penny for my ideas," and then we both started laughing.
  • "Come on, pretty Unless it's a full moon, I don't bite "As I looked at him, he grinned. As I inhaled, ready to throw everything on the line, I felt the truth starting to bubble up.
  • I was unable to just speak the truth, so I said, "I was just thinking about my mom." Being sincere was difficult when doing so could result in death.
  • Chad took my hand and whispered, "I lost my mom in a fight with another pack. If you want to talk, I'm available. My chest tightened as I stared up into his eyes. As I sensed the tingle of passion wafting between us, my mouth slightly parted. The situation would become more challenging as a result. I had a strange connection to Chad, but I quickly turned my head away as a flush spread across my cheeks. I hoped that this sensation was only a childish crush. In an effort to keep Chad out of my mind and safeguard my brother, I did.
  • So, are you hungry? He politely inquired.
  • Yes, let's stop here, I responded, gesturing toward a little eatery. We left and headed for the structure. Chad hurried over and flung open the door for me. "Thanks." We moved to a corner table and sat across from one another. My favorite item on the menu, chocolate chip pancakes, was what I picked up.
  • What can I do for you? At me, the waiter grinned.
  • Before he turned to face Chad, I murmured, "Chocolate chip pancakes with a glass of milk."
  • As we handed him our menus, he grinned and said, "A bacon cheeseburger with French fries and a cup of coffee." I sat there scanning the area, excluding Chad. "Sapphire, what's wrong?"
  • I questioned, peering up into his eyes, "No, why?" I could feel myself suffocating in them.
  • "There is no issue. Not even a glance at me, "I gasped as he stated.
  • "I think you're okay," Unreasonably loudly, I screamed.
  • "I do like you, what's the issue?" I could feel my internal battles as he laughed.
  • I muttered, "It makes things more complicated," as tears filled my eyes.
  • "Why?" I sighed and he asked.
  • As the dinner came, I said, "I can't tell you. We kept quiet while we dined there. So, what was I to do at this point?
