Chapter 17

• I woke when Ashara and Mesandre brought tea and flat bread.
• “Eat this before sitting, Princess,” Ashara instructed. I ate the flat bread, half reclined in the bed before sitting to drink the tea. The nausea struck, beading sweat along my temples, but I fought it back. The maids watched my face and when the sickness passed, looked relieved. “Good. Let’s get you ready for the day then.”
• I followed them into the tent they had pitched for me, and stood whilst they washed my face and hands, and brushed and re-braided my hair. “Will you fetch Princess Liera’s breakfast, Mesandra?” Ashara murmured as she tied off my braids.
