Chapter 5

• After Laura’s discussion with her mom, she decided that she would go pay a visit to her dad’s company, to see for herself how things has been running and maybe during her stay here she might take care of things in the company herself while her mom would take a break.
• Scott called her later that evening like he had promised, they stayed up talking over the phone before Laura felt tired and said goodbye. She retired to sleep that night in anticipation of her visit to the company the next day because she hadn’t been there in a long time.
• Laura woke up early the next morning so she could prepare herself and arrive at the company early. She asked David to prepare the car because he would be the one to drive her to the company. She wore a grey pants suit with black stilettos and a black hand bag.
• She arrived at the company early like she had planned to because she didn’t want to arrive at a time when the company would be filled with its employees and bring a lot of attention to herself. As she walked in, she was greeted by the few workers who had arrived. She asked for the manager because she needed him to give her updates on the company’s progress and also an insight on what the company had been like during her absence, both the pros and cons. Laura asked the manager to give her a tour around the company for inspection.
• The company Laura inherited from her dad was a company that dealt mainly on gadgets and that was the reason why she had always been scared of running it, because, she had no idea or experience on those kinds of things, but, she was lucky that the company’s manager was a close friend of her dad, he promised to guide her on everything she needed to know concerning the company whenever she was ready and he would help her in any area she may find difficult.
• After inspecting the company and going through some of the files, Laura was exhausted, so she decided to go home and rest because she felt all she had done was enough for the day. She arrived home and went straight to her room to take a shower. After she was done showering, she went to the living room with the rest of the files she hasn’t studied, so she could take a good look at them.
• Her mom had gone out to see a friend, so she was told by one of the maids. She was home alone, so she texted Scott, asking him how his day went and also telling him how hers went. She asked him if he has hired a new secretary yet but he said he still hasn’t found one. They ended their text when Scott told her that he was going to attend to some minor issues and promised he'd call her as soon as he was less busy.
• Her mom got back home later in the day. She saw Laura in the living room with some files, so she went and joined her on the couch.
• “Busy?”
• Laura lifted her head away from the files at the sound of her mom’s voice.
• “Not really. I’m just going through these.” she replied.
• “So, how was your visit?”
• “Well… It went well, I'm really glad Craig is the manager, at least he’ll be flexible with me when explaining things.”
• “It’s just a day and you’re already tired, really?” her mom said with a light chuckle.
• “Okay mom, don’t mock me, you know I have no experience on this one.”
• “Okay, I won’t.” her mom replied while raising her hand in surrender.
• “Honey?”
• “Yes mom.”
• “Kevin has been asking about you for quite awhile now.”
• Laura was surprised to hear that name, he was her past now, her mom should know that.
• “I didn’t want to say anything over the phone because you may take it the wrong way… so I decided I'd rather tell you in person.”
• “What does he want?”
• “He only wants to see you Laura, is that an offence?”
• “No mom, it’s not an offence but he's my ex now, you should know that.”
• “No one ever said I didn’t.”
• “Please mom, tell me he isn’t the reason you asked me to come home?” Laura asked because she knew her mom could do such a thing.
• “No honey, why would you think that?” her mom sighed then continued.
• “I asked you to come back home because I needed you around and I wanted you to have an idea of your dad’s company but Kevin still cares about you honey… I may not know why he really wants to see you, but from the looks of it, he's really sorry.” her mom said.
• Laura didn’t want to see him and she doesn’t know why her mom had to bring him up.
• “Mom can we not talk about this now, I'm trying to concentrate on these files.” Laura said trying to dismiss the topic.
• “Okay honey, I was just giving you a heads up of what you needed to know. So don’t be too surprised if he comes around.”
