Chapter 7 The Connect

  • Back at the Jefferson family house, everyone roared at Barry.
  • "How dare you treat my daughter like some priced possession. How dare you?"
  • "Barry, how could you? This is my daughter we are talking about here. Who the hell gave you the right to hand her over to some random man huh?"
  • "Barry, I can't believe you did that. Is that how much I mean to you?"
  • Barry stood there speechless as they continued to moan rapidly. Did he miss something? Are these not the same people who wanted Tanya to divorce him not long ago.
  • "Mother Susan, I don't understand, isn't this what you always wanted? Me out of your hair and out of your daughter's life?" Barry asked, his hands wide open. "Fair trade then, your daughter for the business."
  • Susan had stopped scolding him and realised this was the best opportunity to get rid of this annoying bastard son-in-law.
  • Seeing that they had calmed down, Barry entered his room and dialled Brian Hayes number.
  • "Boss, is that you?"
  • "Brian, listen, the Jackson Five Corporation is handling a business project of five billion correct?"
  • "Yes boss."
  • "Good, now listen to me very carefully…" Barry had a brief chat with Brian Hayes before he switched off his phone and went to the kitchen to start cooking.
  • At the Jackson and Sons CC, Marcus arrived to meet his dad who was busy at the office. He had planned it through and through, about how he would approach his father about this issue at hand.
  • "Dad, we need to talk," Marcus said pacing up and down.
  • "Well, son I'm very busy why don't you come another time okay." The old man, who at his fifties ignored his son.
  • "Dad this is urgent," Marcus panicked. Grant was about to dismiss him angrily when his son dropped a bomb on him.
  • "Barry Jackson is out on parole."
  • "What?" Grant was shocked, his wrinkled face pale, nervously scratching his recently cut beard. "So soon?"
  • "Yes, dad he is out on parole and is gunning back into this company."
  • "What are you talking about? Even if he is out, he can't come back to this company. He doesn't have any right whatsoever."
  • "Dad, remember that pretty girl I promised to bring to you? The one I love the most? Well, I just found out she's married to Barry. And to make matters worse, I had a bet with him."
  • Grant listened with widened eyes. What had his useless son done now? "What bet?"
  • "Dad, you gotta have connections to the Jackson Five corporation right? I made a bet with the Jefferson family that I would secure atleast a ten percent of the projects of the Jackson Five corporation and give that project to the Jeffersons. Dad, tell me you know the Jackson Five, tell me you know them."
  • Grant smiled immediately. Marcus rushed up to celebrate. "I knew I could count on you dad."
  • "I know the CEO of the Jackson Five Corporation son, it's Brian 'the devil' Hayes. We are well acquainted. Tell me then, what are the details of your bet?"
  • "Well, if I win the bet. No, when I win the bet. I get to have Tanya as my wife. But if I lose and Barry wins, he gets 20% of my shares in the Jackson and Sons Corporation."
  • "What? Why would you be so careless?" His dad scolded. "Do you want to bring that idiot back to our family? I worked hard to banish those people from our family son."
  • "But dad, I thought you had the connections?"
  • "Stop making silly bets, and stop chasing mindless married women! There's so many women out there and you go for that idiots wife instead." Grant banged the table hard. "Fine, I'll clean up your mess. Get the fuck out of here!"
  • Mr Grant Jackson picked up the phone and dialled a familiar number, none either than Brian Hayes.
