Chapter 7

  • "What the hell are you doing here?" Celeste hissed at her brother as soon as he got inside the secluded room. "And with her? What the hell, Flynn?"
  • "You were taking too long!" he answered back. "Weneed the money and you know that."
  • "I told you, I'm working on it," she stated. "You can't complicate things here more than it already is, Flynn. That girl you're with? That's Liam's little sister. And shehates me. Seeing that she brought you here? I'm sure she's up to something."
  • "Relax, noona. She doesn't know who I am. Or my relationship with you."
  • "Are you sure about that?" she said as she folded her arms over her chest. "Lia isn't someone to reckon with."
  • Flynn just gave his sister a smile. "And I'm not? Seriously, Soo. You underestimate me. I meet swindlers and con artists on a daily basis. I cancertainly deal with a spoiled brat."
  • Celeste massaged her temples. "Flynn, please. We can't risk you being here--"
  • "Risk? Really, noona? Or is it because you're already forgettingwhyyou're actually here," he said as he folded his arms. Celeste turned mute. "You're already in, Celeste. You have him at the palm of your hands. Even that engagement ring can very much be sold at a very high price."
  • "And risk being caught? We won't be gettinganything at all if you keep rushing things."
  • Flynn rolled his eyes at his sister. "You think I'm dumb? You can fool everybody else but you cannot fool me. I'm your brother. We grew uptogether. Youlovehim that's why you can't seem to leave him. Thecon artistfell for her target. What a damn good plot twist."
  • "I told you, that's not it," Celeste insisted before heaving a sigh. "Everything was going as planned. But I didn't expect his sister to be this... well you met her. She'son to us. Lewis I can handle. But that girl? She's out to get me, Flynn."
  • "You're not fooling me, Celeste. But I can see you point," Flynn said recalling how cunning the blonde girl was. "You wouldn't mind if I stay for a while, wouldn't you?"
  • Celeste's brows furrowed. "Why? What are you going to do?"
  • "I'm going todistract the hellcat."
  • -
  • "You just had to ruin our night."
  • Lia and Lewis were standing in front of their big brother inside his study. The twins eyed each other before turning towards the eldest again.
  • "I thought she's having an affair with him!" Lia defended herself. "You saw the video. Don't you think I have the right to question yourfiancée’sloyalty? And in my defense, her record says she had no sibling."
  • "They don't look alike either," Lewis supplied.
  • Liam massaged his temple--clearly losing patience. "You did a background check on my fiancée? Seriously, Lia!"
  • "It's normal, Liam," she argued. "I have to know if this girl you're dating isn't a criminal or something."
  • "She wouldn't beinour company if she was," he spat back. "You doing these immature things makes me think whether you're really ready to be COO."
  • "Liam don't—" Lewis tried to stop him but he was cut off by his own sister.
  • "Immature? You've got to be kidding me," she blurted out. "If anyone in this room is immature it's you. Who in the right mind would marry someone he just met? I mean, you didn't even know he had afucking brother! I understand her not knowing about your past relationships but you, not knowing her family? Seriously Liam. Youhaveto get yourself checked."
  • "I can't force information out of her just like that, Lia. You wouldn't know 'coz you haven't been in a real relationship."
  • This made Lia raise an eyebrow.
  • "You're sofuckingunbelievable," she stated to which Lewis agreed to. "This is why you need protection fromme. Because you're too... You're toostupidto realize you're being played."
  • "How dare you call me stupid! I'm older than you."
  • "Apparently not mentally," she said rolling her eyes at him. "This is why you can't even close a fucking deal without me."
  • "Without you? I am the CEO. I can close dealswithout you," he declared. "You always think you're better than everyone else—"
  • "Because Iam," she immediately said.
  • "You are?" Liam scoffed. "You're not good without the company name, Lia. You land those deals because of our company's reputation. As of today, I'm dismissing you from being the Director for Acquisitions."
  • "You're firing me? Really now?" She said with her arms folded over her chest and eyebrow raised. "Fine. Go ahead and fire me. Let's see what grandma would say about this."
  • "Grandma doesn't care about you. She only allowed you to come back because I traded with her—"
  • "Do you really think it's that simple?" Lia laughed at her brother. "You'refucking clueless, Liam. Grandma only said that to make it look like you're earning her favor. The only reason why she wants me back is to marry me of with Jaeju's CEO to strengthen the merger.
  • "I've done research after you told me you bartered with her. And guess what I found out. Jaeju acquired rights to technology like that of a Tesla," she explained. "Imagine grandma's shock if she finds out I'm no longer in the picture. And of course, I am allowed to say ‘no’ since, I'm not part of the company anymore."
  • "Lia I—"
  • "You've got it all wrong, brother." The way Lia said the wordbrother felt like poison to Liam. He clenched his fists. "I don't need the company nor the last name. I'm aKim by blood. That's good enough for me."
