Chapter 10 Naive

  • I waited a few more minutes and decided to go inside. I expect them to be in the living room, but I guess it was a serious matter about his work because they will probably go straight to the office. I went straight to the kitchen because that was really my purpose—to go to Mother Celia and comfort her. But when I saw her preparing food, I stopped for a moment because she seemed to be looking for someone to hold on to and close her eyes tightly. I quickly put down my book and approached him.
  • I helped her. "Mother Celia," I said.
  • "Letty really fascinates me. When there's a visitor, then she's not here!" She said it irritably while holding her nape.
  • Maybe she was referring to Letty’s job because she was the assigned maid on the second floor. Because there was a visitor, she had no choice but to do Letty's job. But in her current situation... I licked my lower lips, and after contemplating, I first took a glass of water and gave it to her.
  • "Mother Celia, rest first."
  • She stopped drinking water and looked at me. I just smiled at her, didn't wait for her to say anything, and took the tray with only sweet foods.
  • "I'll come for the drinks."
  • That was all, and I took the stairs to the second floor to deliver the snacks. When I got to the door, I knocked a few times as a sign of respect, then went inside.I immediately saw Sir Levi's serious figure, and the moment I grabbed the attention of his companions, the woman I had met earlier did not stop speaking.
  • She's graciously speaking business and technical terms that I don't understand in front of the table where Sir Levi sits, but that didn't stop me from serving the food that I was holding on the mini table of this office. I am now in the middle of two men on my left and a woman on my right. I act slowly and am afraid to make a mess.
  • While I was serving the food, I could feel this one guy with casual clothes on the right side of the table following every move that I made, which made me uncomfortable. I followed his gaze on my body because he was in front of me, and I wasn't mistaken. I slightly looked at him, and I saw him smirk. I quickly averted my eyes and just set down the last plate.
  • Suddenly, Levi's clearing of the throat thundered around the room, as if it were intentional and you needed to notice it. I heard the woman stop speaking, and when I looked back at them, I saw Sir Levi's dark stare at me and the woman's turn as well. I just hugged my tray and quickly turned around to leave. I heard the woman continue speaking as I cleaned the room.
  • It was the second time I came back with the beverages on this tray and served them like I did a while ago, but I still couldn't help but look back at the man who had been staring at me. I was about to serve the last drink when I felt something brush against my thigh.
  • I just ignored it because I thought the strap of the white dress I was wearing had come off and was touching my leg.
  • "Enough."
  • To my surprise, I immediately looked for the source of that authoritative voice. I thought I was the only one who was shocked, but when I also saw them stunnedly staring at him, I was surprised. The dark aura around him was visibl. He laid his arms on the table and squeezed his senses.
  • "Let's resume this matter tomorrow."
  • He closed his eyes while still squeezing his senses. He seems to be calming himself.
  • "What? But, engineer..."
  • I heard the woman's appeal as if she didn't agree with what she wanted. I was about to leave with the tray I was carrying when,
  • "Ava, you stay."
  • Shocked, I turned to her. And it seemed like I was stoned to be left there when he stood up to greet his guest at the door. I swallowed one after another, not knowing the reason why I would be left behind while he was sending his guests home. All I heard was the faint sound of the door opening and closing. I decided to look back at him, and I saw that he was behind me. His eyes were full of irritation and unreadable emotions.
  • "Are you okay?"
  • He asked. I tightened my hug on the tray I was carrying and covered my mouth, and I couldn't speak because I didn't know what he was referring to.
  • "I didn't expect you to come here and serve those trays," he gently said.
  • "And I didn't expect Ethan to harass you in that way. I'm sorry."
  • I frowned at what he said and thought, and when I went back to the events before, I knew what he was saying. I can feel my shivering down to my spinal cord due to the terrifying circumstance. I was harassed, and I didn't even notice it, without even realizing it? I couldn’t help but roll my eyes and restrain myself from crying at the unexpected fear I felt when this man in front of me suddenly brushed my right cheek so gently.
  • "Shhh."
  • He met the little gap between us as he calmed me. My eyes were already full of tears when I looked at him, and he was blurry.
  • "Are you always that naive?"
  • I almost melted with relief when he said this. I don’t know if he was annoyed with me or if he was secretly pleading. That irritated tone that I'll always be willing to hear. I was preventing my tears from falling with my full strength, but I failed. I could see his gaze following the tears that dripped down my cheeks, but I couldn't figure out why.
  • Unexpectedly, He wiped my tears, I met his eyes and I could not conclude any emotions from him, the same cold eyes that I'm used to but now, there's more into it.
  • I felt safe.
