Chapter 6 Her

  • Was he following me around?
  • That was the first question that popped into my head when I saw him for the third time. It was too many encounters in one day and I didn't know if it was some universal joke.
  • Regarding the internship that I had, I was ahead of students in my electives and I took this class as an additional goal to my credits. I was too shy to thank him for help and I was a tiny bit uncomfortable to make a conversation with him.
  • Self expression was held by professor Diana, she saw that I had potential and she was the one who emailed me the acceptance. Not only was she a talented professor but she was also a fire cracker with her free attitude and her elegant appearance. She wore a professional plain black skirt showing off her perfectly sculptered slim white legs and her button up white shirt that had black stripes along with her fire red lipstick and her dangerous dark heels.
  • She looked like she came out of a Bond movie.
  • "Xavier Adams, aren't you going to grace us with your ass sitting in my class," she snapped at him teasingly as he winked at her, both of them had a mini handshake that started with a fist bump and him twirling her around, that got me smiling at the connection they had. They seemed like they had known each other for a long time. I was definitely lucky to have a seat reserved for me because not all freshers were able to enter.
  • "Aye aye, captain." he mocked as she shooed him over to take a seat, his smile was contagious to the entire class as he passed along the desks choosing the one on my right side, I pretended to look at my notebook when I caught him glancing in my direction probably thinking the same thing I did.
  • Professor Diana began her daily student rotation as people showcased their talents turn by turn. I had a slight fright at the amount of strong talents with my new classmates that included Jake with the saxophone, Amanda with her violin, Lea with her trumpet, Sierra with her piano. The whole room basically had an aligned set of instruments that could fill an entire contest and instead of the regular chair and desk, it was a carpet with pillows around like a chill spot.
  • "Dear Rayna," Professor Diana called me out with her Greek accent when I got out of my fascination over the talented people that performed in front of us, "it's your turn, new student, show them what you are made of." She gave me an affectionate smile when she placed her hand over her heart.
  • I felt the scrutiny from all around me, there were still students waiting for their turn but when I took my turn to stand up on that mini stage with the microphone, I knew that I belonged.
  • My eyes tried to ignore his existence but I had to look somewhere and all the others were on my far left side, he was the only one who sat on the right making my attention dizzy but I focused on my microphone when my eyes met my shoes.
  • Professor Diana placed in my song choice in CD form to play it along. 'Somebody to love by Queen' was my song choice for my first room performance. Tingles erupted through my skin as they waited for me to sing.
  • I let out the first line as I clutched the microphone hard in my hand.
  • 'Can anybody find me somebody to love?' I started to sing tuning the people out.
  • 'Ooh, each morning I get up I die a little
  • Can barely stand on my feet'
  • I could hear a few gasps beside me when they realized how much I had practiced, my voice melodic yet soft to the ears.
  • Rayna, don't look at him. I reminded myself as I kept looking at my shoes.
  • 'Take a look in the mirror and cry'
  • 'Lord, what you're doing to me'
  • 'I have spent all my years in believing you'
  • 'But I just can't get no relief,'
  • 'Somebody, ooh somebody'
  • 'Can anybody find me somebody to love?'
  • I belted the last line as the music gave me confidence to look up at the only person sitting in front of me. The timer went off right when I gazed into his eyes and it was out of my control.
  • "That was amazing," Lea encouraged and I gave her a quick 'thank you' as more people gave me a pat of appreciation. I realized that I liked the group in my class.
  • "You really need to sign up for the talent competition coming up next week," Amanda mentioned to me before I sat down and I shyly nodded as I place my hair behind my ears when I went to my previous position.
  • "Adams, you are up with the guitar," Professor Diana announced as Xavier walked up to perform, his hands picked out the red guitar that was the same color as his hoodie. Each talent had a timer so we didn't have much time to complete till the end.
  • The class was fun to the point where we didn't even feel the time passing and I wanted to stay longer.
  • Going back to Xavier, his emerald eyes watched mine as he performed along to Perfect by Ed Sheeran. His fingers flawlessly knew how to play as his eyes glazed over in pure passion and I could tell the whole class wanted to slow dance as they all widened their eyes at Xavier's performance.
  • He perfected it as I smile compassionately at the calm guitar play that I forgot I was smiling to him but he remained somber as he turned his head to the professor.
