Chapter 4 Her

  • "Wait until I catch you, little thief." Mom screamed as the little me trembled with fear.
  • "Mommy, please," my little footsteps went backward as she crept closer to me.
  • "The day I would catch you will be the day of your death." she shouted as her hands grabbed my shoulders roughly.
  • I gasped the moment I sat up with a sheen of sweat covering my forehead and the underside of my eyes. An ugly mess didn't begin to describe what I felt like. It was more of a tragic cause and my body agreed with me as it shivered prior to my first nightmare in living my golden dream.
  • Sighing heavily, I went to the spacious bathroom that had pretty roses next to the big crystal bowl that was meant to be the sink and I opened the silver tap to wash the aftermath of the horrendous nightmare.
  • I stared at myself in the mirror after washing my face and I didn't know what I had expected to see in front of me but I knew it was two options - A broken girl or a diminishing travesty. My light brown eyes dimmed with grey bags under them and my hair was stuck to my face due to water, my lips joining the war portrait by being the most chapped pink lips in world history.
  • Maybe I was exaggerating but I was worried, hungry and desperate to seek help. I needed help. I wasn't going to turn psycho at the beginning of my stardom, I bit my lower lip as I placed both of my palms on the sides of the sink in thought.
  • Elodie could help me. An irrational thought came to mind but I rejected it since she was my new friend and I couldn't easily let her in my life instantly.
  • I groaned in frustration and walked back to the single soft bed after closing the bathroom lights. My eyes averted to the clock on my cute pink bedside table.
  • Great, another four hours left to class so being the nerd that I was, I decided to organize my schedule for the beginning of the semester. Knowing that Juilliard was prestigious made me feel academically overwhelmed with the down sides but I was somewhat confident in my abilities.
  • My dad raised no quitter and I was going to do what I had set my heart to do but how would I do that when my mom would haunt me in my dreams later on?
  • Placing the hair tie around my frizzy hair into a bun, I went to the mini kitchen and grabbed a bottle of water to quench my thirst - another effect of my nightmare aftermath. I wasn't sure where to seek help but I put a note in my mind to see a therapist here.
  • I placed myself on the cozy bed and grabbed my bag from beside the bed to start working.
  • ------
  • Beginnings.
  • It was one word that had a lot of meanings.
  • For me, a beginning would be a great big escape from the big bad wolf that took the shape of a mother. For others, this might sound like a crazy unhinged family problem but they hadn't seen what was inside of me, it was all what I had thought about aside of my dire need to become a singer.
  • "Miss Harrington, are you with me?" the welcoming voice made my tired brain respond.
  • "Yes, I'm with you." I replied.
  • I was behind on my sleep and I willed myself to go to the registration so I could complete my enrollment for the semester since Elodie took up my time.
  • So here I was, making up for lost steps.
  • "All you need to do is sign here, sweetheart." the administrator ordered nicely and I nodded, signing the beginning of my journey.
  • Relief took over me when I enrolled the five courses I needed to take and the fact that they didn't even ask about my parents was another added relief since I was an adult. I successfully paid and there was nothing standing as an obstacle to me. Well, except my mother.
  • My eyes scanned the full room of students chattering amongst each other with elated grins the moment I walked out from the office. Being the social outcast due to my tight house rules, I stood beside the office with my red hoodie and my black sweatpants.
  • "There you are," I heard the squeals of Elodie and I knew I was done for. A person needed to be well hydrated to stand the energy of Elodie Adams. Unfortunately, I was lacking in this department. I didn't have enough energy to even stand. "I was looking everywhere for you."
  • "Err, sorry, I was registering." I excused and her eyes brightly sparkled. Uh oh, this wasn't going to be good.
  • Considering that I just met the hyperactive girl yesterday, I knew enough to know that she has something to say from the way her eyes widened in excitement.
  • "You know the contact that I added for you as a surprise," she reminisced aloud and I nodded with a furious blush on my cheeks, I was going to talk to her about that but it was pushed to the back of my mind. "You're going on a date with my brother!" she happily exclaimed and if I could die out of embarrassment, today would be the day.
  • "Uh, I don't-" my brain started to panic at what would I say and my heart raced like a drugged horse.
  • "Don't worry, he doesn't have sperm problems-" she started going off but I put a hand on her mouth as students passed and raised their eyebrows at us. I was blushing deeper every minute, there was something about her bluntness that made me uncomfortable.
  • "Elodie, I don't think I can go to that date. I mean I don't even do this dating stuff." I whined and she narrowed her eyes at me with a small frown.
  • "But he wants to know you, he even asked about you." She encouraged and something inside of me moved like a feeling of some sort.
  • From the look that Elodie gave me, she knew I was going to give up and go on a date with her brother.
